We have plenty of offseason to discuss Cal. Now on the task at hand:

Winning a tournament game was a long time coming.
Finally, we beat someone when it matters most and what we always

Getting to the Sweet 16 should be possible vs KSU.

Now how far do we have to go to feel like we're back and ready to contend?

I'm going to say it is going to take a run to Houston. I see comparisons to the last time we faced KSU when we were a 5 and lost to an 8.

But there's no one in our bracket we shouldn't be able to match up with.

Wasn't this already asked? Success at UK is a final four.
Dunno, haven't read all the threads. Just thought this is a good time to get feedback on what everyone's level of a successful weekend is. It could be Tennessee preventing us from going to Houston.

On November 1, 2022, I said in a thread about expectations that E8 or better was the only thing that I'd accept as a fan as proof Cal might be correcting his sinking ship. That didn't mean I'd be fine with him sticking around. It was an expectation that this clown takes a team with fresh talent and experience and makes something happen.

Today, I still expect that or better. Don't know if it will happen, but that's what it will take for me to feel OK about how the year ended.

Cal has taken a lot of my heart, so if we play this coming Thursday I’ll be happy. Old me, Final Four banner or bust. But we are what we are. Honestly I’ll be shocked if we win today.

We are Kentucky so we want to say final 4. Especially since we started out ranked top 5. But given injuries and general underperformance from key pieces I wouldn’t scoff at and elite 8. As a matter of fact I’d say elite 8 would mark most seasons and successful. A sweet 16 might earn some grace from a big portion of our fanbase but if we lose today there will be no silver lining and we should all agree the season was unsuccessful.

Final fours don’t come easy and they don’t come often for any program so it’s really unfair to call that the measuring stick. But having those wild expectations is part of what keeps Kentucky what it is

Win today, and I'm "ok". No happy by any means but just this cause it's pretty much Final Four or it doesn't matter. But based on how mercurial this team is, a couple good games in a row to get a shot going into the second weekend and I can live with the result. With bourbon anyway.

At UK you have to win it all. Just the way it is.
Everywhere else, 20 wins is a good season and a Sweet 16 is a great season although nobody believed this was a Sweet 16 team in late January.

Before the Season I thought we had a Great Chance of going to the Final 4. After watching the season unfold I would think Sweet 16 is the ceiling with this team. Just do not have the Consistency as previous teams.

Before I would have said sweet 16.

Now that our bracket has fallen apart I say elite 8 or FF.

FF. Even more so with the bracket in front of us.

There’s no scenario where we could lose to K State, Michigan State, Marquette, Tennessee, Florida Atlantic, or FDU and consider this a successful season.

For me, a successful season is one that ends with Cal and UK parting ways.

Considering 2 of our guards either can't or barely can play and one is hobbled but gutting it out, I'd take a s16 as a success. Sue me

Our regular season was a fail in my book
Any team can get hot during the post season have some breaks along the way. The tourney is one loss and you’re out. I will not be satisfied, content, happy or whatever you want to call it to just get out of the first weekend.
To salvage anything, to redeem an otherwise poor season, we cannot do less than a Final Four.
The path is there, we got the breaks. This team is capable
We need to see if Calipari can do his job

Of course we won't get to the Final Four every year (too much pure dumb luck in the Big Dance for that) but we do expect to at least be in reasonable Final Four contention.
