We had no containment and no pressure on the ball. With our 3 man front we had no edge to our defense and SC could bounce it and run for days or hit an easy pass in the flats.

He said defense played good. Yes, we gave up too many soft 3rd downs, but that is because we played soft zones and 3 man fronts. No blitzing, no change ups, nothing.

I understand. You basketball fans are used to 40 minute games. Football is played for 60 minutes. And over that whole 60 minutes, defense held them to 24 points. That with offense giving them the ball at the goal line twice. This ain't nfl2k. You win by keeping the other team from scoring. Not sacking the qb and doing a dance.

I thought the defense got pushed around in the 2nd half. When the new OC can't keep his side of the ball on the field it doesn't help. Very poor effort on both sides tonight..

Defense was god awful they let USC take 2nd half kick off and stick it up our butt
No pressure our front 3 runs on a treadmill just terrible

I’m not sure why, but I thought the defense looked a step slower and played uninspired football in the second half. Maybe it was USC adjustments, or they wanted it more, but USC controlled the game after halftime, I thought.

Four minutes into the fourth quarter, Carolina had scored 17 second half points. Defense wasn't good.

We forced the QB out of the pocket all day, so we got pressure. What we didn't do is stay with our man through the whistle and get holding calls when they were warranted.

Containment and gap sound play was missing more than it ever should be, but it wasn't as serious as it might appear at first glance.

They did what it took to win. We didn't.

They played to win. We played like we were better than them already.

They played with energy and a killer instinct. We were flat, flatfooted at times, and unfocused.

But right out of the gate our D stepped up, pit pressure on the QB. Was in the backfield a ton. They just didn't always finish.

I think the defense was uninspired because they knew our offense was not gonna do anything tonight and they were right. They've been a discombobulated mess all year and the only competent QB on the roster wasn't playing. And we've given up our identity of being able to play bully ball with the run game. So when you can't pass or run, the defense knows they need to pitch a shutout.

UT has to be licking their lips at what they saw on the wr outside screens. As well as we played those all year, surprised to see this team hurt us there.

Other surprising part was how much we played man. Looked like a lot which is really out of character. I think it's because we're having trouble stopping the run straight up. We're having trouble there because Rogers just isn't getting it done at nose. I said weak 1 they need to switch him with walker and the D will be much better. Walker would command a double team and could anchor down when doubled. Rogers just tries to make plays which is not the role there. To cover that up, we're bringing people way more than we should and it's costing us. Cost us last week too on some big plays

UT ain't thinking about us. They have a lot higher aspirations under their what 2nd/3rd year coach than beating the 10 year "program" of Stoops' kentucky (who can't field a kicker or a backup qb)
