Dear Dakari

There is conjecture that Dakari stuck with the OKC D-League team with assurances that he will get a deal next year. We will know more in a year.

Still think it would have been beneficial for all parties had he stayed. It's not a stretch to see him as a first rounder in this weak draft.

I remember people on here slamming Dakari last season for his 2" vertical.

Yes, and he still has a 2" vertical, which is why he will likely never have much of an NBA career. Chuck Hayes did manage to have a decent career while being a big guy who wasn't that athletic, but he was an exception. Dakari would definitely have helped us this year, but he wouldn't be a savior or anything. We probably still would have lost the games we've lost, even with Dakari.

Dakari would help this team immensely. We have 0 low post offense. We can't throw it to anyone down low and expect a basket, we're more likely to turn it over. Dakari would bring offense down low immediately.

Maybe with Dakari we don't have three guys on the other team get double digit rebounds against us.

Here are his D-League stats. Not bad, but he definitely should have stayed at UK. I wonder what his contract status is? Can't find that anywhere./

He did not get a contract. He's playing for the D-League minimum peanuts this year.

***I saw ESPN proposing that the Thunder should make a deal with the Grizzlies for Courtney Lee (who has an expiring contract) & PF/C 3rd-string backup McGary would be one they proposed would be included in the deal.......if that were to happen, would leave a frontcourt spot open for him next year then.

1. Dakari is making D-League 30k average salary...so he's not exactly rolling in the dough.
2. Dakari does have a 2 inch vertical and lead in his feet...but he's a huge kid and isn't afraid of contact in any way. And his Fr year...showed a decent touch with his back to the basket.
3. There is nothing indicating Dakari will make OKC roster next year. They have 2 centers in Adams/Kanter and a backup C/PF in Mitch McGary. Adams has 2 years left and Kanter just signed with OKC. All signs are Dakari will be in d-league next year as well.

This UK teams needs Dakari and his banging inside...but he went to NBA for a future that will ultimately end in Turkey/China. I don't see him making 1 Million dollars in USA playing b-ball.

The indication that he is signing with OKC is that he allowed himself to be stashed on OKC's D-League team, when he could have become a free agent and gone anywhere.

Assuming he is being well-guided by his agent, the implication is that OKC has made him some promises and he is comfortable with what the had to say. We will know more next season.

Chuck Hayes is 6'6" and played a lot of minutes at center. His defense kept him in the league for 10 years despite his short stature for his position. So I can't really agree that he was not very athletic.

From Wikepedia: Hayes finished his career at Kentucky ranking 7th all time in rebounds, 8th in steals, 9th in blocked shots and 35th in points.

Think it was probably not wanting to do the books thing .. He would have been huge down low this year.

Yes he would have been the difference maker. I believe he would have raised his draft stock and been a huge contributor in our areas of deficiency.

Quickness and leaping ability equals athleticism, and Hayes had neither in abundance. That is why he didn't play on the perimeter as most 6-6 guys do. He was really strong in his lower body and could keep the opposing big men away from the basket because of it. That is what kept him in the league. That and just knowing how to play the game, and knowing what his role was, being a good teammate, etc.

Not even $30k. NBA d-league salaries are $25k, $19k, and $13k depending if you are an A, B, or C player.

That's even worse. He's getting paid minimum wage to play basketball. Another poster said that he may have a guarantee to get a deal from OKC this summer. Hope that is the case for him.

Was he afraid Cal recruited over him with Skal? Everyone WAS calling Skal the number one draft pick.

Yes, he's playing for pay. 30k a year based on a 40 hour work week is around $15 an hour. There are plenty of jobs out there which pay more. At least taxes are not taking 40% of his income though. There's that, but living on 30k a year is practically impossible these days. Hopefully the team does cover some of his expenses.

Whether he would have helped UK this year makes an interesting debate, but it's rather moot isn't it. He's gone, and we have who we have. It's up to Cal to get this team to play on the road like they have at home at times. Despite the disappointing end last year's team is looking darn good right now.

This is the same Dakari that went scoreless in 8 minutes against Wisconsin right?
