Dave Kersey, you called it

Cal can't play a 4-star recruit like Allen that can shoot the light out, over a 5-star bricklayer. Just think. If Terrence Clark had not been hurt. Allen would not have got off the bench this game.
For three straight years, Kentucky’s best player (earning top minutes per game) has been either a substantially improved sophomore or a four-star recruit.

And yet Rupp Rafters continues to pump this kind of horse****.

Allen was great last night BUT how will he play when teams have scouted him. It was obvious msu had no priority to defend him.
That’s not the point . The point is his being a threat changes the whole game . Opens up spacing and opportunities for the rest of the team . Other coaches were leaving Boston wide open for threes and laughing at us when they picked up ten to fifteen points s game off of his misses .
Even if Allen doesn’t shoot he changes the game for us for the better . I’m also impressed that they absolutely did not take advantage of him on defense. The kid should b on the court for 35 minutes a game barring foul trouble IMHO

Getting back to the OP, I also appreciate Dave and his information and thoughts and have for years now. Does he hit everything right on the head? No, but I don't know any human that can do that in any subject. He nailed it on Allen so let's enjoy that for the moment and, hopefully, the rest of the season.

This thread...

Seems like if the defense has to shade to him it opens up the floor for someone else. The game is all moves and counter moves, but a shooter like Allen is a pretty good chess piece.

I’ve got to see him play well in more than one game to get excited about his ability to open things up. I think other teams need to as well. This was my ultimate point

Not much to scout. The kid runs and runs until he gets open basically. Plus, he only needs the slightest sliver of room to get his shot off. Go back and watch the highlights from last night’s game.

Do you really think that a D-1 University that is paying millions in coaching salaries isn't scouting players coming off the bench? Even if the didn't I'm sure they are at least telling them to be sure not to leave this guy, he's hit two straight.

I think this is a good point. MSU not strong on the wings, basically guard oriented. There may be teams where Allen may have a tougher time on defense. But he still has to play as long as his shooting doesn’t slump. If he can just make 45% from 3 that will be a huge plus.

And yet, there’s still a few who can’t understand this simple concept!

Cal is about his NBA draft stats, not his UK stats! And don’t @ me about what he did his first 5-6 years! I get it, but his priorities have clearly shifted.

And because of that, he will be the coach that loses UK’s all time wins lead to KU.

Just 45%... that would be one of the top shooters in country . When was last time we had a 45% 3 point shooter? Did Doran Lamb get there ?

I forget, who played more minutes, 4 star Herro, or 5 star Montgomery? 2 years ago.

You can't scout a release as quick as his is. Keep trying though.

The guy isn’t Michael Jordan or Larry bird. These replies that he can’t be shutdown are lame it’s like you want to anoint Allen as the next all American shooter. Let’s see him play for a while before we say things like “ he can’t be scouted (shutdown)” because of his release.

Until I see more I don’t think Allen is any kind of a season changer.

And we would now be 1-7.
Yeah that's just it, I only remember two comfortable looks the rest were "I can't believe he shot that & hit that shots. It's the way I feel watching Curry every time. Amazes me he hits the shots he does cause the all look rushed, off balance or contested. But that's how hands shooters look, they are able to adjust with their hand release better than others who take a traditional jump shot.

Okay!

reminds me of how Shidler & Hord were always in Joe B.'s dog house for some reason
Can't hit a shot looking over your shoulder to see if you are going to be yanked from the game
