D'Angelo Russell - #1 ranked Montverde Academy[/B] (Orlando, FL) - Jan. 20; Committed to Ohio State - Lost to #7 ranked Curie High School (Chicago, IL) 73-69; 6'-4"; 175; PG-SG; #17 ranked player in 2014 - 7-15 FG; 1-5 3-Ptr; 2-3 FT; 17 Pts; 5 Reb; 7 A; 4 TO; in 31 minutes. Montverde came in 23-0 as the #1 team in the Country and some are saying they are a better team than last year. NO WAY! The coach's son, Brendan Boyle, is the PG and can't come close to last year's Kasey Hill (Florida), nor do they have anyone inside to compare to Dakari (UK) or Devin Williams (WVU). To be fair, Montverde did have a long trip in from Springfield, MO, 1-2 days ago where they played 3 straight days in the Bass Pro Tournament. I really like this lefty junior, originally out of Louisville Central H. S. Although some see him as a PG, I see him more as a combo. He plays under control and his 7 assists indicates that he sees the floor and is not afraid to share the ball. He shoots well from the outside, but has a funny shot ? no follow-through, recoiling his shooting hand, with his legs bent a lot at the knees. Definitely not your classic form. Plays smart.
