What amazes me is that our first move by the DL is to raise up, no push. Then just look at how far of the LOS the LBs stand waiting for the play to come to them instead of moving forward. This scheme is unlike any defensive scheme I have ever seen. It not like bend without breaking, it more like let's see how long we can prolong the break to give the offense time to rest. If we recover a fumble or intercept a pass so be it but scoring is what it's all about.I agree Dice and have also said that for years
We need team speed and quickness. We can't react quick enough to stop the running game and that can't be fixed until you get those type players. I've said it before and I'll say it again, it takes years as in 5-10 years to come close to SEC team run defenses. The only way this team will win is to just out score other teams and that is hard to do for a full season.
1. I have never had a clue what scheme Brumbaugh/Elliott/Stoops are teaching our DL. The interior DL are taught to push into the OL and not get around them. Brumbaugh, to me, has always been the worst coach on staff along with Schlarman.
2. Let's be honest...Lewis has been decent. But Huegengtin/Meant are mirror clones on Collins Ukwu on Joker Phllips era who was very poor DE. Elam looks pitiful...just stands up and is no more impact than Mister Cobble...who was another poor SEC DL.
3. I don't blame (or give credit) to our strength and conditioning program...but the love affair with Eric Korem's program that would get us to another level is just goofy...I see no better conditioned kids/stronger kids than I've ever seen at UK. But Korem was one of the biggest hype jobs I've ever witnessed...people thought we'd be making Raymond Sanders into Barry Sanders with a conditioning program![]()
Meh, I would consider ULL and Bowling Green to be pretty equal.I didn't get to see the game ESPNU isn't on my cable package, but I think there could be some are being a little too critical. First off things are never as good as they appear or as bad as they appear. ULLA isn't a power but they are a team that has won 9 games the last few years which means they know how to win and made the trip expecting to win, unlike some teams who take a game to get a nice check.
You guys won against a good team, a team that will do well in their conference and be a threat to win it, not like those almost warm body teams Ole Miss or UF were playing, or even UGA and UT.
But fans are just going to be fans, you should read our board, you would think we lost, our qb is awful, he completed 6 of 10 for 160 yards, 2 TDs and no ints, our back up completed 2 of 2 for 37 yards 1 TD and no ints, pretty good day for our qbs I thought. But we come out injury free which was good.
Congrats on the win, hope your's was injury free too, now lets both of us get to 2-0 next Saturday.
The DL was fine tonight. We stuffed them up the middle. Most the big plays were on the outside. We had no edge tonight. That's OLB that got burned. Most of the time they were running away from Jabari and picking on the freshmen.
We're you watching the same game?
i thought we looked slow to start the game and got tired quickly. my optimist side says that we practiced really hard the last few weeks and we were so amped for the first game that we were jittery all day and it was hot as hell and humid and we just didn't have it physically. and before everyone says that affects both teams... i know boom is fast and he got run down by a lb'er. my hope is that we take a day off to rest up and practice gets lets grueling during the season so we come out faster and more rested against scar and look more like the team at the swamp last year then the team at missou last year.... which kinda what we looked like in the 2nd half of this game.ESPN announcers were talking about how gassed the D was. Where is the superior conditioning?

Our LB's, even Forrest, have an extremely hard time finding the ball and getting off of blocks. Our front 3 D-Linemen were decent at getting into the Offensive linemen, but our DE's and LB's were either out of position or just outright missed tackles. The read option KILLED our defense when the QB kept the ball. That play has haunted our defense since Elliot has been the DC. Why?
I was disappointed in how easily a Sunbelt team ran on our defense. It must get better.
