Crappy scrimmage.

It may not all be, but a lot of that is "coach speak". He could have the NE Patriots out there right now and he would say Brady was off. This is his chance to push these boys to the next level of their ability.

From all the earlier reports, this is a MUCH better team all around than we have seen in years. The level of athlete is higher than we have ever seen. I think he is saying this to reporters to make sure every player hears it and they all make the step to the next level of ability.

Stoops is smart. He knows how to make every kid reach their potential. He is a great coach and motivator. He is going to win a lot of games this year,

Or it has been two crappy days.
It cold be but I don't believe it. These kids are a different level of talent. The early reports were all glowing about how good they were. How their bodies had changed. They had gotten stronger and put on muscle weight while also adding speed with the new conditioning and weight lifting program.

It sounds a lot more like coach speak than anything.

Stoops' comment about having a"heckuva punter" is amusing to me. He knows rival coaches will mock us any chance they get. He's getting in the players heads, trying to get them fired up.

I think they had two bad days. Someone tweeted how Swindle had the O-line together after the scrimmage screaming at them. Sounds like they're tired and hot and not giving max effort or at least not max concentration. Got to do better with so little time left in camp.

I hope Stoops and his staff have raised the bar and that by old standards, this practice would have been acceptable. Not good, but not as bad as Stoops sounds.

Some of this might be coach speak but IMO the team had a poor practice yesterday and a poor scrimmage today. I do not think this is something coach made up. He might have exaggerated it a bit but he didn't make it up

The most troubling thing that coach said IMO was his questioning of the players energy and desire. Technique can be taught but it is very difficult to coach energy and desire. Many reports like this one and one must start to question the "All In Motto" of the team.

I believe today was the end of two a days and a little letdown might be expected but evidently it was more than a little the past two days to get such ire from Coach Stoops. I believe he insinuated he might make some 2 deep changes if efforts of player doesn't pick up. Heck I believe he said he is likely to have another scrimmage when this was supposed to be the last to find out who really wants to play. He said he would like to have another scrimmage tomorrow but that the stadium was in use. He was not a happy coach.

The tone of the coach made me think this was much more than coach speak and that the team had really disappointed him.

if they have worked as hard as everyone says all summer long and then have had an excellent fall camp for two weeks it could just be burnout. they've been playing against each other and practicing together for 6 months with out the satisfaction of hitting someone in a different teams uniform.

camp fatigue. they are just ready to play a damn game would be my guess.... but that doesn't excuse back to back bad practices.

Coaches don't say things are great and we have it all figured out very often. Called keeping them grounded...nothing to worry about.

Coaches like having a bad practice every now and then. Gives them an excuse to yell and get angry.

Still two more weeks

Fact of the matter is, he was pretty happy to this point. Something tells me they can get him back to his "happy place" soon. Two days do not a season make. Anyone who ever endured even HS two a days knows how these guys are feeling about now.

This sounds like a lack of focus and ferocity... premature elation over the end of camp. Coach is also probably seeing some guys relax thinking their slot on chart is determined for now. This is a BIG mistake, wherever you happen to be slotted, and he is letting them know it.

He is right to get mad about it, but something tells me it will get corrected. You use this event to teach on the point of not coming off a big win too pleased about it to apply yourself the next week.

Weather today is 80 and sunny. Anxiety about today's scrimmage is way overblown. Every year, team loses some focus during scrimmage late in August after most of the key position competitions are already settled. They are sore, tired of scrimmaging against each other, and they want to hit players from another team instead of their own teammates. This leads to mistakes in practice. Our coaches are pushing our players to get them mentally ready for the season. Because potential starters are injured, younger players are filling in. Stoops is smart to lower public expectations and challenge his players. Not concerned.

My guess is two bad days.

There's a difference in just getting the job done and "really getting after it". When players are mentally or physically fatigued the young and some veterans give a 3/4 effort. Just enough to get to the locker room and take a shower.

When the same fatigues happens in a game they end up doing what they used to do in practice. The guy across the line then winds up kicking their butts and you loose the last 6 games.

"You play like you practice". There are very few "just a gamer" on SEC teams. At least the good ones.

Geeze, he said same thing last yerar, and will say the same next year. it wouldn't even surprise me if he met with the other coaches and senior leaders and told them to be extra tough on their respective units also. It's a standard coach thing to do. They wait until their team gets worn out from 2 a days, and then lay into them. It's psyche 101 guys! The trick is waiting till the players start to sluff off so they take you seriously. Camp is tough enough that it eventually catches up to all of them. Great coaches just take advantage of it.

Maybe a way to boost confidence of 2s and 3s - get them snaps in third scrimmage while protecting health of the real 1s.

I'm with the crowd that said the team is getting tired of playing each other.

I've been watching highschool football, NFL pre season and replays from last years games, but I just can't scratch that itch! Two weeks away and I am driving myself crazy thinking about this season. And I don't even put on the pads...imagine how our guys feel?

Go Cats!

Just think Stoops and staff have a high standard and are accepting less. Good for them. Either you give effort and perform or next man in we will move forward.

Coaches regard every practice as a chance to get better. But there are simply not too many college age kids that have the mental and physical maturity to actually do so.

Peace

Czhances are it was a bad day. It's preseason, you have been practicing for about 3 weeks, going against the same guys everyday who know your strengths and weaknesses. It becomes a drag and you struggle to get through it. Nothing to do with being tire, just mentally against a wall. A few more days of it and the it's game week and the focus returns. I don't think many of you know the drag preseason is,

i've seen twitter and such that it's not coach speak... it was a really bad practice.

I don't know about that, sounded like the whole team lacked it today. They better learn to get some mental and physical maturity. You can have "off" days in the ACC, but not the SEC. That's why Stoops is angry. Off days get you a blowout in our conference.

The last I heard Stoops said that he would hold another scrimmage tonight but the stadium would not be avalible. Has the been a change and there is going to be another scrimmage tonight.

If so Stoops must really be ticked off at the lack luster performance of his players. Lack of effort is something that most coaches have little tolerance for.

If this was "Coach Speak" then Stoops deserves an academy award becasue that was definitely one pissed off dude in that video.

For so long as I have been reading or hearing coaches press conferences in fall practice which goes back to the Morriss era, I can't remember one fall that there were not at least a few bad practices that disappointed the head coach, so this was is no different.

It's not unusual to hit a wall this time of year but if you want to make it to Atlanta like Patrick was talking about, you have to find a way to will yourself through that wall, because during the season their will be bigger walls to face as well.

Don't forget these kids are still COLLEGE athletes. Yesterday was a big day on campus with K WEEK starting. You know the players felt the change in the environment around campus. It would be easy to get caught up in the excitement, and lose focus. This may be the cause for the poor practice yesterday and poor scrimmage today. BTW, the event at Commonwealth is called Big Blue U. They bring all the new students into Commonwealth, they learn all the student section cheers, etc. My daughter said Big Blue U is her favorite part of K Week. BTW, she is a K Crew leader this year.
