This about sums it up.

Should have left Horsey at guard and let Buford deal wjtb tackle.

Burton isn’t ready and by moving Horsey we screwed up two spots

Burton and flax have both been awful all year. Moving horsey to tackle may have been a mistake but honestly i have no idea who else we could put at left tackle. It’s stunning how bad they are And how little depth we have.

I just find it hard to believe that Young is not better than Burton...these are the guys they need to go to the portal to replace . Flax looks the part , but certainly isn't. Burton just flat can't play , but is young so who knows.

Right now Wilson is better than burton imo. Not sure why the staff is so hellbent on putting Burton out there. They should've begged Dotson to return. Would've been a huge boost

Burton is wildly inconsistent, imo. Has a couple of good plays where he steamrolls his man. Then may completely whiff on the next one. Maddening. Wilson doesn't seem like he's got a higher ceiling than Burton and can be overpowered at times, but he doesn't have the complete breakdowns like Burton does. I think, if it were me, I'd stick with the mediocre-to-above average consistency vs. great to awful inconsistency.

Flax is a puzzle. Probably should be playing guard as he's not athletic enough to play tackle. Most likely we had no one else that the staff thought could do it so he's there by default. Buford played solidly in his absence, but he, too, looks more like a guard to me than an OT. Can't believe Hall, Young, Rodriguez, Goodwin, Bingham, et al can't get on the field when we're getting almost nothing from some of the OL starting.

1)recruiting misses/guys not living up to their rankings/offer sheets
2)dramatic change in scheme, guys recruited to play Gran's philosophy can't adjust to McVey/Shanahan pro style wide zone
3)3 diff coaches in 3 yrs

There really isn't much more to say. The Oline is below average due to mistakes by one or two linemen on a large number of plays.
Yeah it is the same as it looked in Sept. There isn't 1 guy constantly bad. They rotate blowing assignments or being beaten among all 5 starters.

They don't handle twists very well at all. If they overload the Tackle, the guard is standing there wondering where his guy is at or stuck running behind his guy. Crazy to watch sometimes.

I remember seeing an interview with our current O line coach when he was hired and him saying he would play eight guys and develop depth unlike our las t guy. That did not age well
It blows my mind with how we have struggled that a couple of our backups have not gotten a few snaps here or there
I worry about some of our young guys hitting the portal

Re the change in scheme, I'm reminded of Drake Jackson's comment several months ago: "It's like learning to wipe your ass with your other hand.'

Let's be realistic.

1. Burton and Flax are the two biggest issues on the Oline...by a country mile IMO.
2. As far as Burton goes...Q Wilson has played a good bit of guard and center before and he was not great but he was not a turnstile like Jager has been mostly. I also don't get the infatuation with Burton but Quentin has played better in past than Jager and I am like many others...John Young for sure can't be much worse. I do think Jager is just not big enough yet and needed another year to build his body before getting a starting gig.
3. Flax....I don't know man. Buford looked decent (not great) vs. Miss St. But then Flax comes back off injury and he's getting 100% snaps. And doing his typical bad performance. Flax is good for 2 motion penalties a game, has bad feet and can't block down on run game to save his life...and on pass protection...he's good for a few plays a game that he's a turnstile out on the edge.

I never like to buy into the backups are better and coaches are wrong as they see way more than I do. But Yenser feels like he has no idea what to do or get the right kids in the right spots. I was clamoring to keep Horsey at guard and figure out the tackle spots as you just have 2 problem spots when you do it. But this was all his choice to move Horsey, Cox...and those two have had their worse years at UK. If Yenser is back, then I'm mailing it in for having a decent season next year.

Makes me wonder if they aren't there yet on the playbook. Remember that is why Wohl got the start to begin the year. A guy like Young has been here several years, body should be right by now. Learning another new system probably didn't do him any favors.

New depth chart has young and wohlabough as backups at guard. I know young is sort of flip flopped before but never saw wohlabough there. Weird. Maybe they're just trying to get them on the field however but it doesn't add up

I saw that just now as well.

Man...what a crazy Oline season. Wohlbaugh looked pretty slow to me with this feet and usually your better feet and length go to tackle and road graters go to guards. So maybe Wohlbaugh can put on size and be a solid guard down the road.

But UK has got to figure the tackles out. Horsey is a Sr (maybe he can do a covid year). But Bingham is in no universe a tackle. I hope Goodwin can stick at tackle as well. I hope like Hall sticks at tackle. Rodriguez is a guard. Josh Jones has been passed up a ton...he looks like a non player.

Imo it's another sign yenser is out. I started feeling that weeks ago when the messaging was so different between yenser and stoops and what we saw on the field. Yenser is married to wide zone and we just no longer are.

It's entirely possible he could stay and just be onboard with the change but he seems all in on that scheme. I can't see it being a good fit if that's not our entire run game.

FWIW, Josh Jones had season ending surgery(knee I think) early in the fall.

Thought Wohlabaugh was listed at OG last week as well.
