A UT fan uploaded this to his YouTube page. This is obviously a UK broadcast. Does anyone know who the announcers are? Also, I couldn't help but notice that as each UK senior is introduced before the game, the player stops in front of the same beautiful UK cheerleader.

UK 21, UT 17

Ritchie Curtis put this game out on DVD back in 2003. Denny Trease, a former WKYT Sports Anchor is one of the announcers.

Thank you for this,

Enjoyed the game, enjoyed the old commercials equally as much.

Hash marks I have forgotten about.

Dave

The announcers are Denny Trease and Tommy Bell (former NFL referee).

I have the original VHS of this broadcast at home. I believe I traded Ritchie a copy of this tape for the Penn State game from 1977 if I remember correctly.

I used to watch this tape all the time as a kid in the early 1980s. Partly to see the game, but as much to watch the old commercials. I always loved that Coke commercial at the 1:35:30 mark.

Holy Smoke.....Power K on the helmets, the old tear-away jersey (darker blue than we wear now), and a Falls City Beer commercial to boot.

Classic Wildcat Football.

Thank you for posting this. I wasn't born until 1982 but games like this are why I still view UT as the biggest rivalry. I truly hope that we begin to hold up our end of the bargain. There isn't anything that gets me excited like UK/UT week. Truly my favorite week in sports.

Man....I forgot how they used to let defenders tackle ball carriers waaaaaaaaaaaay out of bounds.

Back then on a missed FG the opposing team got the ball back on the 20, so might as well take a shot at it.

Thanks for the link.
This game ended the Cats season because of probation. IIRC, UK was hit with probation one year bowl ban at the end of 1976 and had the choice to apply it in 1976 (Peach Bowl vs UNC 21-0 in very cold ATL) or 1977. UK hadn't been to a bowl game in around 30 years and Curci took the sure thing. He later said something about he not thought the team would be so good in 1977. Final polls had UK #4 in AP and not eligible for the coaches poll.

Playboy 1977 All-American Team: Fran Curci, Coach of the Year, Art Still, lineman, Kentucky (PB AA team is selected before the season)

1977-Kentucky (SEC) UK OPP

9/17 @ Baylor (5-6) L 6 21
9/24 vs. West Virginia (5-6) W 28 13
10/1 @ Penn State (11-1) W 24 20
10/8 vs. Mississippi State (5-6) W 23 7
10/15 @ Louisiana State (8-4) W 33 13
10/22 @ Georgia (5-6) W 33 0
10/29 vs. Virginia Tech (3-7-1) W 32 0
11/5 @ Vanderbilt (2-9) W 28 6
11/12 @ Florida (6-4-1) W 14 7
11/19 vs. Tennessee (4-7) W 21 17

Season result 10-1-0 UK vs opp 252 111

Cheerleader was Karen Crum whose dad was the basketball coach at Harrison County. Denny Trease was the announcer and Denny later went on to become the voice of the Kansas City Royals. He worked with ,of all people, Rush Limbaugh. The color guy was Tommy Bell, a Lexington lawyer who was best known as (I think) the first referee to be inducted into the NFL hall of fame.

Best I remember I tried a 65 yarder in the season opener against North Carolina.

One fact about that season is that even though we were undefeated in the SEC we would not have went to the Sugar Bowl had we been eligible. Alabama went undefeated also, but, Bear Bryant would always play 7 SEC games versus the mandatory 6 so his team would win one of the tie breakers in place at the time.

Wasn't there a guideline that said If 2 teams tied for the SEC title that the team who hadn't been to the latest Sugar Bowl would get the invite.
