Commit Ty Bryant Paul Hornung Award

A taste of Vaught’s view:

“The 6-2, 195-pound Bryant has 16 carries for 166 yards — 10 yards per carry — and seven scores. He has three punt returns for touchdowns. On defense he has seven tackles, two tackles for loss, one interception and one fumble recovery.

“He’s been a major weapon for us on punt returns with several big returns that were not touchdowns. He made all-district as a running back,” McPeek said. “He is one of the state’s elite athletes, one of the very best. He’s going to Kentucky for a reason.”

“We have been kind of splitting his time on offense and defense. We have been working on our depth at safety and our scores have given us the opportunity to do that and Ty has been fine with that.”

Bryant was recruited as a defensive back but is a safety, running back kick returner for Douglass. He ran for 106 yards and the go-ahead score in last week’s Class 5A playoff win over Woodford County. He has rushed for 458 yards and 11 scores, returned three punts for touchdowns, made 17 tackles and intercepted one pass this season.
