It is stupidity and shortsightedness by college football power brokers. If you remember the marketing from a couple weeks ago, they were calling it THE NEW YEARS SIX. Trying to bring prominence and high status back to playing bowl games around new years day.
problem is that because of the Rose having to be on NYD, when the semis are not played there they have to be on NYE. ESPN has some intelligence, and is begging, BEGGING college football to instead move the 2 semi games to Sat Jan 2nd. No NFL games that day to compete with, college football would rule the UNIVERSE in terms of viewership for that. Instead the powers-that-be want to continue their meaningless little new tradition of concentrating all the 'big' bowl games to NYE & NYD. Losing the forrest for the trees, people want to be out partying on NYE, or at least the girlfriends & wives (lol), not parked in front of the TV watching games.
If the whole point is to get people watching college football and make the sport more money, play the 2 semi games on Jan 2nd idiots.
