In 1992, we finally began to have a National Championship game in football...it was the Bowl Coalition and Alliance....before finally settling on the BCS in 1998. That last until 2014 when the College Football playoff began. I wanted to show the strength of conferences...and if there's really parity in the country...you'll see below...even with realignment that the Big 10 isn't close to having the top strength of the SEC.

My opinion....the Big10 is lucky Ohio State didn't implode after Tressel in 2011 combined with the Penn State scandal. The Pac-12 fell apart because USC sucked the last decade & Big 12 because of Texas. It tanked their whole league's ratings. Ohio State is that program for the B10...had they fell off in 2011 when Michigan had Hoke and Penn State was down...it could've tanked their brand and ratings too. Urban Meyer saved that league.

So I'm showing numbers by CURRENT conferences and where they are now...this a National Title game Appearances

31 National Title Games. 62 slots...since 1992.

The Teams...
SEC: Alabama(10), LSU (5), Florida(4), UGA(3), Auburn(2), Tennessee(2)
ACC: FSU(6), Clemson(4), Miami(4), VT(1)
B10: Nebraska (5), Ohio State (4)
B12: Oklahoma(4), Texas(2), TCU(1)
P12: USC(2), Oregon(2)
IND: Notre Dame(1)

#1 The SEC
-26 appearances from 6 programs
-17 National Champions from 6 programs
-All 6 programs won a title and have played for multiple titles
-4 programs have won multiple titles

#2 The ACC
-15 appearances from 4 programs
-6 titles from 3 programs
-2 programs with multiple titles
-VT's appearance was 1999. Miami's last appearance was 2002

#3 The Big Ten
-9 appearances from 2 programs
-5 titles from 3 programs
-3 of those titles are from Nebraska, whose last appearance was in 2001
-Michigan and Mich State have playoff appearances

#4 The Big 12
-7 appearances from 3 programs
-2 titles from 2 programs...Texas/OU who are both leaving
-No title won since 2005.
-Went from 2010-2021 without and appearance until TCU in 2022

#5 The Pac 12
-4 appearances by 2 programs..both leaving
-Only 1 title from USC
-Last and only title in 2005
-Washington had a playoff appearance

#6 Notre Dame
-Independent

NOTES:
-The SEC makes up 42% of all championship game participants since 1992.
-Since 2006, the SEC makes up 58% of title game participants & 76.5% of champions
-Only 18 difference programs have competed in the title game since 1992.
-Of those 18 programs, 15 of those programs have competed in more than 1 title game
-Those programs are Notre Dame, TCU, & Virginia Tech
-Cincy is the only non-power school that ever got to the playoff

So now when you factor in reaglinment...

1. SEC
-32 appearances by 8 different programs
-19 titles from 8 different programs
-All 8 of those programs have multiple appearances

2. ACC
-15 appearances from 4 programs
-6 titles from 3 programs
-VT's appearance was 1999. Miami's last appearance was 2002
-Only 2 have appeared as a member of the ACC

3. Big ten
-13 appearances from 4 programs
-6 titles from 3 programs

4t. Big 12
-1 appearance from TCU

4t. Notre Dame
-1 appearance

I know many have questions about realignment and complaints...but when it comes down to it....

1. College Football has never been fair.
2. We only have been crowning an actual champion for 30 years.
3. Bowl Games matter less now that we have a tournament. Can't have both.
4. Football generally can only have so many good teams.
5. The Big Ten needs the SEC more than we need them tbh.
6. From a national perspective...the only programs that matter left out of the Big 2 are FSU, Clemson, Miami, and Notre Dame.
7. If both leagues want to ensure the best teams are playing...add those 4. Then UNC and a choice between VT & UVA and finalize those leagues at 20. You'll have everyone that matters under 2 roofs...plus 2 to keep it even.
8. The only title contending programs in the Big 12/Pac-12 both were taken out...
