Given UK’s putrid offensive display Saturday and TB’s outstanding showing, Coen’ status gets a big boost. It’s early this season, but all indications are that our offense looked much better his 2 yrs than the seasons after him. I don’t think it’s a talent thing. I think Coen is damn good.
Which leads me to: Does anyone have the inside scoop on why he left? I heard serious rumblings that he was dissatisfied with Stoops/Marrow and what he thought was sloppy coaching, practice, expectations and so on. I know some perceived him to bail on the program, but if he left for those reasons, I respect him more. I also suspect he resented Stoops’ interfering with the offense.
I know most want Sumrall as next HC, but I hope Coen is given serious consideration as well. I think we’ve seen the program with him and without in a narrow window, and the contrast is startling.
I don’t know if he’d leave the pros, but we’d be lucky to have his charisma, professionalism, and intelligence.
