Coaching test right now

Not knowing all the facts, I have no idea what I would do right now if I were coach. But I do think that this is a big test for Stoops and staff. All coaches go through these periods when things feel like they are falling apart or going backwards instead of forwards. All the de-commits and the shenanigans with some of our player "leaders" all contribute to some very negative vibrations for the team and the fan base.

This is the side of coaching that really tests the character and inner fortitude of a coach. I have no idea how it will all be handled by this staff. However, I think that how this all pans out before Spring practice will tell us a lot about the kind of coach we have, and will have a lot to do with our progress going forward. So, as he evaluates all that has occurred and looks at all his options as to how it should be handled from a coaching standpoint, it is my hope that Stoops will come out being the real leader that I think he is, and that he will be able to turn a really negative couple of weeks into a learning experience that launches us forward and gains us some needed self-respect and admiration from those who are watching. That is, I am hoping that in a few weeks everything will be looking much more positive because Stoops handled it well.

He grew up with a coaching family, he most likely has seen or heard most of the things that can go wrong. Seems his brother is having some issues with his team too. As a coaching staff they will work this out, he is not alone in dealing with this.

Are these coaches even sleeping at this point? We need 10 commits in less than 7 days to save this class?

First, the class isn't what Stoops has done with the first 2 classes, but it's hardly crap........i.e. "needs saving."

Second, they don't have to bring in 10 commits. It would be nice, but if they bring in a handful of really nice recruits this class will do well.

I think the Richmond issue is the biggest test in the short term, because it happened at this time (close to NSD) makes it even more of a problem. It is ,at best, a distraction that the coaches just don't need right now..I hope Stoops has some skill in the area of damage control.

Right now I am more worried about how this situation in Richmond shakes out than I am about the recruiting. UK just can not afford to lose three players that are likely to be in the two deep this coming season. Even one of the three would be a big loss. The recruiting losses were never a sure thing to be at UK but the Richmond 3 are already a part of the team,.
