Has anybody heard whether he will be on the field during games or in the booth?. What is your take on if it matters or not...Don't really care as long as it works. I'm a big proponent of scoring in today's college football. If you can score thirty pts a game your chances of winning games increases dramatically.

Field. Believe he said that when he first took the job.

Every coach has their own preference. There is plenty evidence that both work. It is what the coach is most comfortable with. Other than that it doesn't matter.

I think he likes to see it the way his QB does and likes having face to face contact with his QB on the sideline. He trusts his people in the box. That was the gist, I think.

It doesn't really matter. He has to have a high level of trust with his eye in the sky though. They've got to be able to see things and relay info to you quickly and accurately.

I think unless our defense improves a ton, 30 points isn't enough, heck, with last year's defense 40 points wouldn't have been enough ..it's just crazy looking back.. there were seven different games alone last year where scoring 30 points wouldn't have got it done..our offense caught a lot of undue flack last year when in actuality it should've been placed on the defense

Our offense scored 30+ points on seven different occasions against defenses like Mississippi State, Florida, Georgia, Louisville...think about that for a second..I know we love basketball on grass and 30 points against the #1 team in the nation isn't enough for us, but just think about that for a second

We scored 31 points against a pretty dang good Georgia defense (one of the highest point totals they gave up all season) and still lost 63-31..heck, we could've had the best offense in the nation last year and still lost that game by double digits..I mean some of those point totals were just borderline ridiculous, yet it was the offense that caught flack after games like that as crazy as it sounds..it made my head spin last year when I'd come on here and see offensive criticism after a 63-31 loss against Georgia where we didn't force a single punt

We went down to Knoxville and gave up 50 points (the most points they scored against anyone all year) ..even if we would've scored 5 touchdowns we still would've lost by double digits

We gave up 41 points to an LSU offense (the second-most points they scored all year) that was pretty anemic last year, and even if we would've scored 30 points we still would've lost by double digits

We scored 40 points on one of the best (statistical) defenses in the nation in Louisville (the second-most points anyone scored on them last year, second to only Florida State) but we still lost 44-40

We gave up 38 points against South Carolina..if we would've scored 30 (a pretty high point total) we would've ended up losing..lucky for us we had a night where our offense exploded and was able to carry the entire load and score 45 points (the 2nd-most points South Carolina gave up all season, second only to Texas A&M)

We scored 30 points AT the swamp (the third-most points scored on them all season) against Will Muschamp's elite Florida defense stocked full of NFL talent and still lost 36-30

We scored 31 points against the number one team in the country and one of the best defenses in the country in Mississippi State (the 3rd-most points scored on them all season) but our defense didn't show up and we lost 45-31

Maybe some of you can see why I was in constant defense of Towles and Neal Brown last year when every single week there were threads on here criticizing both of them yet there were ZERO threads criticizing the ridiculous number of points we were giving up..we're just so infatuated with offense right now to the point that we completely overlook even historically bad defenses..I know the offense wasn't spectacular last year, but it was light years ahead of our defense (and it at least gave us a chance to win most games)..Looking back our offense put up a whole lot of points against a whole lot of good defenses, but because our defense gave up about 45 points/game in SEC play we were unable to even keep it close in several games down the stretch where even a mediocre defensive performance could've resulted in us having 7 or 8 wins..hopefully it'll be improved drastically this year, because even if we have one of the best offenses in the nation it's going to be hard to win SEC games (unless we're going to attempt to beat everyone in shootout fashion)

It's just not a good formula to rely solely on your offense to win games..hopefully we'll start holding the defense to a little higher standard this year if we lose a game 50-40 or 63-40 or 51-38 because last year it was hard for me to hold my tongue when I would get on this board after a 44-40 loss or a 45-31 loss to the #1 team in the nation and people are criticizing the offense and saying ZERO about the defense..I know we love exciting football around here, but come on..I'd rather win

I have always preferred the OC in the box, but it can obviously be done on the field. Nick Saban wanted Lane Kiffin on the field and he seemed to do okay last season. Dawson has said he was always on the field except at WVU so that is what he feels comfortable with.

If always thought the QB needs someone to talk to on the sideline when he comes out (not on a headset) and specifically his coach, not the RB coach or the line coach, but his coach or the OC - Dawson is both. I also think it benefits the OC to be able to communicate face-to-face with the QB and the skill players as well at times. You obliviously need good assistants upstairs that can spot and advise but we have that.

I don't think you can blame the defense for the UofL loss. The defense scored 14 points, forced 5 turnovers. and gave the offense a short field the entire game. The UK offense was actually pretty anemic for the game and if they had produced decently UK would have had an easy win.

Let's also not forget the anemic offense at Mizzou. D was really solid that game, but offense was pathetic.

Game at the swamp was triple ot...tied at 20 at the end of regulation...pretty hard to blame that on defense (as far as points allowed)
