CJ Johnson is the best D lineman on the cats

He is the best Def. Tackle on our team. He is great against the run or pass. His motor never stops. He is a big reason our defense has been so effective.

He reminds me a lot of Myron Pryor. But even better than Myron

Glad someone made this post. I thought this for a while. He also made the blocked field goal last week with just a great solo effort

He played his ass off tonight, I hope he keeps playing like this the rest of the season. If he keeps his play up to this level he will be playing on Sundays.

Two weeks in a row he has played really well. He's been a force in the defensive line.

Poster child for how athletics can kids escape really tough situations. Hope he gets paid next year.

Also the poster child for talented guys who decide to get serious about their game. He was lost last year, because I think things can too easy to him in Juco, but I think he is now working hard to earn the staff's trust after a rough start.

That's right I said it. He's even outplayed Lewis who has played great ball too. But CJ is playing like a man possessed.
Johnson is a good player. Meant, Lewis, and Huguenin are good too. Each week presents different matchups. A year ago, Johnson was lost. Now he has made progress physically and mentally. Others are doing the same. When will our fans learn that football is a team sport?

Coach Brumbaugh is very underrated member of staff. Johnsons success is a feel good story

Johnson is doing great but so is Huguenin. Hug really sets the edge well and unlike so many UK players in the past, he keeps his lane and is always there on backside contain. Overall, the D is much more disciplined, the players are sticking to assignments and getting job done as a unit.

Johnson gets more penetration from an interior position than just about any UK DT I can remember. Guy almost never gets in a hand battle at the line of scrimmage; always finding gaps and hitting them hard

This defense is getting better with each game. The staff has done a very good job of building this defense. Go Cats!!

I'm just really impressed with our defense as a whole. Everyone talked about what a great defensive mind Stoops was when we hired him and how he turned D's around everywhere he's been. I never thought we'd have this kind of D in year 3. Developing players, team D, tackling, from top to bottom has improved.

I don't know if he is the best, but he certainly was last night, and the big guy played a whole bunch. Got to credit his work ethic to get where he is.

I said before the season cj had the most potential of the group we have and the best since peters! It's hard to beat peters..he was very good, but so is cj..

CJ has been a beast out there lately and the better he plays, the easier he makes it for the linebackers to do their job.

Very stout SEC caliber defense out there against Mizzou all the way around.

Curious...what kind of background/situation did he escape? I assume he came from a rough area. If so, love that he and Lewis(from Compton) are both such great players and representatives for overcoming and our University.

Also doesn't upset me in the least to have two guys that have to be tough as nails when coming from that background as our two stalwarts on the inside of the D!

Competition is helping too. He's got 2 guys really wanting that spot.

Great comparison...Peters was a game changer for us.. I still remember him pretty much single handedly winning the Georgia game on the road for us.

Johnson may even be a more talented pass rusher than Peters and thats saying a lot because Peters was very good and legit enough to start in the NFL for the last for the last 6 years. The question i had about Johnson was whether he was just a pass rusher and if he could stop the run. I think that question has been answered the last two weeks. He was standing up his man at the line of scrimmage and tossing him aside/shedding, right before the ball carrier arrive....beyond impressive!

I got him confused with Lewis, my bad.

I am glad that someone started this thread. I have thought that he has looked like the best lineman for the last couple of games. He definitely cranked up his motor last night. Also, I agree with TDCat that Huguenin has played very well, as well.

I love to see how these guys develop the rest of the year.

GBB!!

Sad thing about cj is he will be gone after this year..same with flannigan... It seems it take juco's a year to get up to speed and then there gone!!
Hope miggons and bell can make the same transition and make a impact like this next year, cause our dline will loose 3 Sr.all good players..they will be as hard to replace than bud/Z

I think the DL will be in good hands. Yes, we lose some guys, but we'll have a lot of guys back that have played. Regie Meant was having a great year before he got hurt, and will hopefully be back this week. Matt Elam will start next year and can be a force at NT. Ware is a star in the making, and I think Kengera Daniel will develop into a great pass rusher. Not to mention, Love will be eligible to play next year and should start at MLB. Kobe Smith could play as a true freshman, dude is a stud. The coaching staff has recruited extremely well on the defensive side. I think the secondary could be one of the best in the SEC next year.

Count me one as bring a bit worried about next year's Dline and to a lessor extent middle backers. We lose all three down linemen with really only Meant to replace a spot that now gets significant time. CJ and Lewis will be on NFL rosters next year. Some guys will definitely need to step up.

The good thing is, Meant looked really good before he was dinged. Middleton has really good potential. I like Miggins taking over for Farrington next year and think Bell will be a good back up after a RS year. The Minn tranfer will also give us depth on the line, in some situations.
