Reports coming out say the Cincinnati Reds have traded a Minor League Pitcher to the Phillies for Marlon Byrd. Looks like the Reds got there Left Fielder.

Reds trade one of their Top 10 prospects for a 37-year old outfielder while there are several free agent outfielders still available. Sounds about right.

They messed up by trading Latos for next to nothing from the Marlins when they could have snagged Cespedes from the Red Sox for the same price.

.312 OBP last year. Sounds like he'll fight right in on this team. A team that lost a ton of 1 run games going for power instead of stringing a hit or three together. I guess it makes sense with all the crappy hitters on the team. Mesoraco and Frazier are going to need to have career years for a 2nd season in a row.

One thing that could be in play here is that this trade does give the Reds a guy who can man LF for the next 2 years(he will likely hit his vesting mark of 463 PAs). This gives the Reds a full season to allow Winker to continue to get ABs in the minors and then platoon him in LF in 2016. I believe in the end he's the guy who nails the LF spot for the Reds and stays there for years to come.

As a Red Sox fan, I would have gladly traded you Cespedes for Latos, assuming he's healthy. I would put a healthy Latos > Porcello.
But, I don't know, perhaps Byrd is cheaper than Cespedes is the reason the Reds went for him.
Byrd does seem consistent with the Reds in LF (Ludwig, Gomes, etc...).
