Chuck Hayes Doesn't Take Rockets Offer

Just to add more info: (he turned down minimum .5 million for this year)

Chuck Hayes will not sign with the Houston Rockets for the 15-16 season as expected.

"Due to limited roster flexibility and other financial considerations, Chuck Hayes will not be signing with the Rockets as previously announced," wrote Calvin Andrews to Yahoo. "Chuck is very interested in continuing his playing career although he has received multiple offers to accept NBA coaching/front office jobs.

"Chuck's near future plans are to go into a coaching/front office career, however, Hayes has spent a lot of time preparing and training for this upcoming season. Many observers have said he looks in better shape than he has in years.

"Chuck and his agents are exploring if there are other teams interested in him playing this year."

The veterans minimum for a ten or more years veteran is about $1.5 million.

I'd take all the money I could while I still had the ability to play in the NBA unless he thinks he can get more somewhere else. But at this point, I'm not sure about that. Take the money and put it in the bank.

Perhaps there's another team out there willing to let him act more as a locker room guy/pseudo coach? I personally would have banked that money, milk one more NBA deal while riding the pine. But hey, he's made enough money for the rest of his life if he's smart about it, might as well get the jump on being a coach if that's what he wants to do!

I hope he ends up in Minnesota and teaches KAT how to be even more tenacious!

He's earned over $30M in his career, and Chuck seems like the type who would have properly invested and prepared for his future. And as others have said, I would bet he has coaching in his future, as an assistant at the least.
