If a kid commits and then his coach leaves, shouldn’t the kid be permitted to reconsider his commitment or is trapping kids the intent? I thought the early signing date was for the kids and their families, not for the institutions.

The kids can wait until February

Nothing about the NCAA is for the kids and families

Why is it that other sports can have a fall and spring signing period, but football has to be on one day or no sooner than a certain date? What is the rationale for that, other than to benefit the institutions?

I welcome the early signing date and I am sure most high school coaches do too.. The most important thing it ends the pressure put on these kids by high octane recruiters. If a kid has his mind made up and wants to attend X school, he should be allowed to sign and concentrate on school and playing football. Not recruiters calling and putting unwanted pressure on the kid as well as mom and dad after the player has announced a commitment.

And if the coach of the college leaves after the player signs, the player should be allowed to reopen his recruitment.

They should have moved it up to August. A) Avoids impact on coaching changes as well as recruits senior football season. B) Riskier for schools since less is known about players & thus would be likely to even out recruiting.

I agree with this. The timing of what they did really didn't do a whole lot except create this even stranger window of time when coaches leave. In my estimation it is important to have two signing periods for players that want to wait and see how things shake out with coaches or promises that were made to them. It also gives a better window of time for kids to figure out a landing spot that are strung along by coaches only as backups. The current timing basically made it where 95% of classes are done at the first date.

Removing early signing doesn't benefit institutions in general. It benefits the blue blood institutions.

Guess blue bloods are not enjoying being able to screw recruits at will.

To solve the whole issue when a player commits to a school he can sign and if a head coach or position coach leaves within the document can be a clause that allows the player 1 week to leave that school and during that week no contact can come from any school now what do you think

That day no waiting for the school or player

A week is a short time for a kid to have to go back out and find somebody. Even if they had multiple schools after them those teams may have already filled those spots. The studs can bounce on over but many players are left starting over.

The early signing period has spread the talent pool around more than the big dogs like. The fact Is the NCAA has never, even though they try hard, done anything positive toward student athletes benefit. The whole early signing date and February dates don't seem to be relevant since the transfer portal has become so popular. IMO when they expand the playoffs to 8 or 12 teams it will spread out the top recruits even more. Currently if a recruit wants to go to a school that's likely to qualify for a final 4, in football, they only have a few choices. When they expand it a player will have over twice as many choices to go to a team that'll qualify for the playoffs. It's very possible many good players may stay closer to home.

The transfer portal has sort of eliminated the need for an “opt out” after a coach leaves.
Sign, go to school and play for a year. If you like it great, if not, transfer.

WHich is why it should be even earlier - like August.

Why are the certain dates anyway?

Like ... Why, if I kid wants to sign with Kentucky, can he not just do that? Why's he gotta wait for a specific date?

How is it spreading gbe talent around more than before? According to the recruiting services the highest ranked classes ever have come after the early signing day was introduced. UK's improvement, imo, is more to the credit to Stoops and his staff than an early signing day. It certainly hasn't effected Bama or tOSU by hurting their recruiting. Elite recruiters have and always will sign the best classes no matter when of if there is an early signing day. To actually believe schools that have 50+ analysis that were former HS and college coaches that do nothing but watch prospect tape aren't aware of a kid until he commits to a lesser program is unrealistic. Now they might feel they can come in late after they miss on someone higher on their board but he isn't an unknown.
