Hardly anyone is talking about him, but he's had a similar drop-off as Skal. Early on, many were thinking he was gonna be a key player, with his hustle, rebounding, and his driving. In the last 7 games, he has tallied a total of 5 pts, 5 rebs and 2 assists. That's not an average, that's a total for the 7 games.

He's just a typical freshman. I'm thinking he will be a really good player next year and into the future.

You may recall a difference in expectations between the two.

No reason to attempt to drag a guy that was expected to be here multiple years, and progress at a normal curve, through the mud to hide that deficiencies and overall disappointment in what was supposed to be (possibly) the signature piece of our line-up.

That was a helluva run on sentence above.

Hardly dragging him through the mud. Just saying nobody is really discussing him. I agree he was not hyped or rated very, but it is true that early on it looked like he was going to play better than his ranking. Probably just the fact that we are playing better teams, but it's just another reason why we have had to temper our expectations for this season.

Matthews recruiting ranking/expectation was accurate...Skal's was 100% off (so far). They should both be back next year. We'll see on Skal.

Our freshmen have been below average on the good/bad scale overall. If Briscoe can keep hitting at a decent clip and ever learn to shoot FTs decently...and Murray does his thing at least we are getting a good return on those two. Skal and Matthews give us very little though, although Matthews not giving a ton is fine.

I just think it's been difficult for him to get any sort of feel for the game because he doesn't get a lot of playing time. It doesn't help that he's not that skilled on offense and his shooting range is very limited right now for a wing player.

I will say that at times on defense he has made plays that makes me think he's got Liggins/MKG potential on that end of the court at the 3 spot. Taking that part of his game to the next level and being able to finish on transition opportunities will be his key to getting on the floor next season.
