Chad Ford's First 2016 Big Board

Murray is a better ball player than the guys in front of him sans Skal and Simmons but those 3 are really close. Ingram and Brown being projected high is just potential talking here, nothing is set in stone. Brown could go to Cali and look horrible all year and fall out of the draft. Ask Alexander how that happens.

Pretty much all these guys are projected that high based solely on potential. The top five are all freshman.

I'd say that this whole projected draft is nothing more than a projection of what anybody in college ball's potential could be. That is captain obvious. Their are tons of good college ball players that never step foot in the NBA. Draft has nothing to do with production (in college) but potential that is projected into the future for that particular team. If a guy is a projected big timer and he is showing it then I'd say that is a big plus for whoever is getting the top picks.

I'd say that Skal, Simmons and Murray thus far have seperated themselves as being better basketball players right now than Ingram or Brown. Do you disagree?

no mention of Lee?

Does that surprise you? Lee is a career bench player averaging barely over 2 ppg for his career, with barely any skills beyond running and jumping, and who failed to show any real discernible improvement between his first and second years. Would you be lookin to draft him?

I don't think Ingram will be that great this year but he'll be drafted top 10 on potential.

Simmons is an all around stud, so versatile and a great passer but wouldn't surprise me at all if Skal goes #1.

Yes he is very skilled.
Thanks fellas. I'm happy Wojo landed him, though that likely had a lot more to do with his brother already being at Marquette. Either way, will be interested to see him play this fall since he was injured the better part of his Senior year.

Pretty weak draft class IMO. I used to be a Jaylen Brown fan but the more I saw him play the more average he looked. Simmons is good all around but not great by any means. I think Skal has the most upside in this draft.

Yes I disagree, when exactly did they separate themselves? Murray was the only one with a real chance to do that since we saw a good bit of him in the pan am games but that still didn't offer up much comparison to the other guys in the top 5 here. What analysis do you have of each player that separates them?

I liked Jaylen Brown, but thought he could use some work on his perimeter game. The guy simply gets to the line, favorable whistle or not. He was good as dead in their championship game with 3 fouls very early, but somehow still was able to stay the course and hit the GW FTs.

On Ellenson, I have to see it to believe it. How did Roy Williams not reel him in?

On Simmons, I don't see him holding onto his reign at #1. His coach is not going to make him better.

Maybe, but as you said, this isn't about what they are right now. I wouldn't be shocked if Ingram or Brown end up being bigger impact players than Murray eventually.

I think Jaylen Brown goes top 10 just based on physical traits/ability, but how high in the top 10 depends a lot on whether he shows he can make shots in halfcourt sets. He showed 0 ability to do that on the spring all-star circuit. If that continues, then he drops down like Stanley Johnson did. If he flashes some legit shooting, then yes, he'll go top 5, probably right behind Simmons and Skal.

1. Ben Simmons
2. Skal
3. Jaylen Brown
4. Brandon Ingram
5. Murray
6. Malik Pope
7. Dragan Bender
8. Henry Ellenson
9. Malik Newman
10. Jakob Poeltl
11. Furkan Korkmaz
12. Diallo
13. Kris Dunn
14. Diamond Stone

19. Briscoe

Outside the top 3 to 5 players, this is a weak class. I wouldn't be surprised to see a handful of Euros displace some frosh who unwittingly declare for the draft in the first round.

I think Jaylen Brown and Brandon Ingram are overvalued on Ford's list. Even when it looked like Brown was coming to UK I had major questions about his ability to score in any way more intricate than overpowering smaller high school players. I don't see that changing in eight months to the point he's a Top Five pick. Ingram just doesn't have an NBA body yet. As much as it aggravates me to say it, I suspect he'll play two years.

I have to agree with you on Brown and Ingram. Brown did not really impress me with his shooting & Ingram need to work on him body. He could be one of those players that stays thin like Prince.
