Players are getting ahead of themselves in the one-and-done era. It's clearly showing in some of our players, with the self promotion(Coach Carter "I Did This" scene), almost everyone having personal tattoos, etc. Murray seems to be the only one-and-done that plays for the love of the game and not the individual praise.

Can't wait to get roasted. 22 year old, so don't call me some "not your generation" old dude. Also, don't worry about the low post count, I've been here since Tubby under a different username and backed out after the website remodel.

EDIT: Would also like to add Ulis, Matthews, Briscoe, and Willis to the Murray "Love of the game" group

So you now have 5 of the 9 players in the rotation listed. Yet think Lee and Poythress play for themselves. Interesting take.

Maybe they need to eat chicken every game day.[laughing]

I have seen lax play, but in no way have I seen any of our players "self promoting". Derek Willis is the only kid that has dyed his hair or gotten a new tattoo, but he is a Junior and far from a me first kid.

Yep. Op has a point. Wall, Cousins, Knight, Noel, MKG, Davis, Towns, Booker, Lyles etc... were all just a bunch of self promoting, wannabe celebs, that played only for individual praise and not for the love of the game. Screw the lot of em I say. UK would have been better off without them.

They have the goal to play in the NBA as soon as they can get there, not all, it is what it is, we can't change anything anyway, Im not gonna knock a kid who wants to be a millionaire

Did I wake up in bizarro world? Murray, for all his talent, is the only OAD I can think of that played at all "selfishly". I know that he'll come around, and he's not a bad guy at all, but basically every other player has submitted to Cal pretty quickly and stopped with the silly street ball plays and "making easy plays look hard" (Archie and Harrow - though the latter wasn't a OAD in the conventional sense - being the other two quasi-exceptions).

Shoot, man, I mean which players in Cal's time have had the most tattoos? Wall, Bledsoe, Boogie, Liggins, James Young, Willie, and Ulis.

Well, besides Willie, those were basically the most consistent players on those teams who put the squad on their back on those off-nights when everybody else wasn't bringing energy.

So I don't find your case too compelling.

Whoa, how totally rad is it that we have Wade Boggs posting here! I followed your baseball career back in the 80s and 90s and was a huge fan of yours along with other great hitters like Tony Gwynn and Donnie Ballgame. I had no idea you were a UK BBall fan. Awesome!

you are cooorect OP...you can just tell that skal is all about the "me".
I have never seen such a selfish team....some of our fans SMH

This. The fact that the OP originally mentioned Murray as the only one who isn't playing selfishly leads me to believe he is either trolling or isn't paying attention. If anyone is "forcing it" too much at times to the detriment of the team, it would be him. Honestly, I'm beginning to think this thread was started specifically to get UK fans to say that so I guess I fell into his trap.

Like you mentioned though, it isn't that Murray is a bad guy. He just has a poor shot selection at times and like Cal said, he doesn't think he's taken a bad shot yet because he used to making some crazy baskets.

OP says he is 22. Says he was here during Tubby...meaning he was posting on this board as a 13 year old.

personal tattoo?
not sure what that means. unless it just means "tattoo".

but i'm not sure how players having tattoos would fit into what you're trying to say.
drugs are bad, mmkay? so don't do 'em, mmkay?

Wade Boggs has one of the top 5 mustaches of all time. As for the op, I'm guessing your a rafters legend under your original screen name. Talk about celebrity status, you should show off yours more

I think you are onto something here

What an absolutely moronic take.

You mention this but then exclude over half the roster. Haha. And one of the guys not excluded, Alex Poythress, is a Senior who has already graduated. Clearly in it for his self interests. Marcus Lee? A Junior.

You're basically saying...this is a post about Skal?

But Skal doesn't have a tattoo..

I don't think, anyway.

Yeah. So it's a post about past OAD's and player personalities? They aren't at UK anymore so it doesn't mean anything.

Man...we find some ways to criticize imperfect on-court performances on this board.

Brilliant Troll

It's going to happen with UK. Lots of young and new talent trying to prove themselves. It's going to happen, and should be expected over the first few months.

For what it's worth it is amazing that Cal hasn't had a huge problem with all the players that he has had to recruit during his time here. Recruiting the area of elite athletes, there is usually an elite attitude that comes with it but I haven't seen that kind of trouble. The 2013 team wasn't an attitude problem team, they just lacked a PG that could be a leader.

For the most part, Cal has been able to get the elite talents who are also great kids. People don't give him enough credit for the lack of off-the-court issues or problem children he's had at UK.

Many elite prospects who were recruited by UK have had them at other schools.

While sometimes it's luck, I don't think it's a coincidence that some guys just don't match with UK despite their elite recruiting ranking.
