LEXINGTON, KY
No. 6 Kentucky Opens Homestand With In-State Foes

Eastern Kentucky and Northern Kentucky Travel to Lexington this week

LEXINGTON, Ky. Back home after a sweep through Houston and Minute Maid Park, the No. 6 Wildcats face a pair of mid-week in-state opponents before turning their attention to a marquee weekend series against No. 3 Texas Tech at The Cliff.

Eastern Kentucky makes the short trip up I-75 on Tuesday before Northern Kentucky travels 75 minutes south to Lexington on Wednesday. When they arrive they’ll face a Kentucky offense that went ballistic in the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic over the weekend, outscoring its opponents 31-8 behind the power ofLuke Heyer and T.J. Collett. Heyer earned SEC Player of the Week honors after hitting .727 with five runs, two doubles, three home runs, six RBI (including two game-winning ones) and a 1.727 slugging percentage while earning Most Outstanding Player honors. Collett added a pair of doubles and home runs, one a tape-measure shot into the upper deck.

The pitching staff has been solid while working in 16 different pitchers so far this season, gaining valuable experience for eight who made their Division I debuts this season. Senior left-hander Brad Schaenzer and freshman right-hander Daniel Harper will get the ball in the two games with Harper facing EKU and Schaenzer set for NKU.

First pitch is 4 p.m. both days and will be broadcast on the SECN+ and 98.5 FM Lexington radio.

Here's hoping for a continued progression from 4 to 5 to 6 innings today for Harper.

Tomorrow is iffy, as the weather rolls in with possible snow flurries, but you never know !
