Carrington Valentine says he is declaring for the NFL draft

Imo a good choice, assuming he knows he'll test well. Kid was a really good player here. Unfortunately most fans didn't realize it till the end.

Also jmo but I think the staff knew for awhile which is why months ago we saw them get more aggressive with some corner recruiting/portal

Might be a good thing, we already have to see Vito come back and yap-yap-yap, nightmare having both him and #14.

Don’t understand the part about petitioning for special eligibility…..he’s eligible now unless I’m missing something

He’s ready, they have him on the draft boards and our multiple defense transitions well to the NFL- BUT… with how he’s improved and risen each season I think he coulda came back and greatly improved his stock for the next draft. With that being said, he’s on the NFL radar so if he tests well he probably looks like a genius

This is correct.... The staff has known and Brad White has been on it.

He is not ready but I wish him luck
These kids hit the ground running thinking they are ready. Nobody is going to convince them they aren't going to make millions being a pro and now with NIL it's even going to be worse. Where does getting a FREE education come into play. Don't know if the figure is still correct, but l know that 80% of pro fb and bb players are broke within 5 years of being out of the leagues.

He had a really good year, got caught trying to do too much a few times there toward the end of the season but I guess he's going to capitalize. I think he could have improved his stock with another solid year but good luck to him.

I forgot to mention he is also opting out of the bowl game. In a related item if any of you want to play in the music city bowl Stoops may need you to suit up. 🤷‍♂️🤣
I had a semester of touch football at Western Kentucky in 1958. I was a pass catching machine on offense and had a couple of interceptions on defense. Haven't played since so I must have some eligibility left. Wouldn't need NIL since I have a pretty good government pension and any extra money would just be subtracted from that. At 5'6" it would be hard for the QB to get a line on where I was lining up. If injured, medicare would cover most of my medical needs..

Shame he could not have made this announcement of February 14.

Did he ever intercept a pass while here?

I realize that is not an indicator of how good he is or will be, but seems like that would make him less attractive to NFL teams if he didn’t have 1 or only had 2 or 3. I just can’t remember him getting any and I go to every home game, some away games and watch the rest on TV.

My dog has a chance of catching a football with his mouth. Valentine has a lesser chance of catching one with two hands.

Strange choice, imo. 2 years ago, he was picked on unmercifully and did not shine. This past year, he greatly improved but still not exactly a shut-down corner and had a few games (Vandy, in particular) where his guy had no problems catching a bunch of balls. If he gets drafted, I would expect a late round. If he came back and continued to improve, I would've thought a 3rd or 4th round. If you're a DB and drafted late and you make the team, it'll be special teams only for a few years. And there's certainly no guarantee he makes the team as a late round pick. Think he's pulling the trigger a year early but good luck, I guess.

1. I liked Valentine personally. I don't get all the "he was not that good" stuff. I thought he played very well last year IMO.
2. It's a loss for sure and I'm not sure Dre Phillips with the other CB as ???? is great for next year. I am sure some of the kids will be decent but we need 1 maybe 2 portal kids now.

White and Stoops have been good on this side of the ball. They have their work cut out for them.

I just hope he doesn't run up against Hendon Hooker of Will Rogers in the NFL. His contract will be torn up at halftime.

Yes had one this year if I recall correctly but none last year.

Sign you up!! I played a couple of falls of flag football myself at Western way back in 88 and 89. Quarterback with a noodle of an arm. I can play! Put me in coach!!

Love the dog in his game..

But it takes a little more than that at the next level.

UK could surprise everyone and compete for an SEC title and/or NYD bowl and his name would be plastered all over the place as the starting DB.

Or... Hope to go in the 6th.

Once a Hilltopper always a Hilltopper! Loved my year there.

CV is love hate. He makes some good plays. He also gets brutally burned regularly, and talks trash too much for what he provides personally.
I appreciate CV and how far he’s come because he used to be terrible and that’s being nice, but you’ll be hard pressed to make me believe this news doesn’t give us the potential to upgrade.

Nice to have dreams , but have a backup plan. The average nfl player's career last about 5 years I think. Look how good a college player Snell was , but is struggling to stay afloat. Had first team AA OL and couldn't make a squad.

In the 1988 United Way of the Bluegrass Flag Football tournament at the old Seaton Center fields I came from my weakside safety position on the left all the way accross to the srtong side to make a pick, took it back 40 yards, thought I was gone but got caught from behind by some ROTC guy (man those guys can move).

Best of luck to him with the draft, I hope he gets drafted high and has a long career in the NFL.

Snell, sadly hasn't been a chance in Pittsburgh. In games that he started and or has at least 10 or 12 carries (forget the amount), he is averaging 5 ypc.

Pittsburgh has really screwed him over. I hope he gets to move on elsewhere and have a chance to play.

That pretty much sums up my feelings on the subject.
