Maybe we can get a little friendly conversation going on here to numb some of the recent pain we have went through. Im not trying to compare teams or pull out stats, just trying to look at the base of each team. Maybe we can pull off another good year like 2012. Here is my thinking: 2012 we have 3 players return that are major contributors with final 4 experience plus 4 stud freshmen. Cal played 7 all year with Wiltjer seeing limited mins. 2016 we are gonna have 3 players return that return with experience in Ulis, Lee and assuming Poythress stays. Hawkins and Willis are serviceable. These players have also been to the final 4 twice.

Here are a few things that made 2012 a great team.

Shooters: Lamb, Miller, Wiltjer were great. Jones and Davis were solid around the rim. Jones did get blocked a lot but could hit the occasional 3.

Defense: Davis and MKG were great, Jones was an underrated defender, Miller was solid also.

Rebounding: very good all around

Point Guard: Once Cal got Teague tuned in it was over!! Bulldog!

Difference Maker: Anthony Davis. Nuff said!

2016 so far plus a few to add.

Shooters: Ulis, Briscoe, ? hopefully Cal can get another good shooter to keep defenses honest. This is probably where we need the most help as of right now.

Defense : Skal will show flashes of shot blocking like Davis and Noel I believe. Ulis can make it tough on the other teams point guard. Poythress is a great defender that will give fits. Hawkins can be good here. Mathews has been said to have a great motor and maybe he can play some defense in the mold of MKG.

Rebounding: Poythress should be good, so should Skal. Lee will help here as well. Hopefully Mathews will play big. Yet to be seen who else we add but I'd figure at least one more big.

Point Guard: We are gonna have 3!! Wow. Ulis will be the leader of this team. Briscoe is gonna be a good one and Hawkins can give meaningful mins if needed. We will be solid here.

Difference Maker: I'm going with Skal. After the video I've been watching lately I think we have another potential number 1 pick on our hands again! Lets hope so.

2012 was one of the greatest, I don't have expectations for this team to be that good but I can at least see some similarities that makes me feel a lot better after losing most of our team. What's your thoughts?
