Knox was a major surprise obviously. But there's been a few like this over the years. It seems like there's at least one that we didn't see coming almost every year. Did Knox take the cake? Discuss....

I would say Murray and Bam were BIG surprises -- but there was at least a little buzz about Murray and Bam buzz a day before he committed. Felt like there was no Knox buzz at all.

I don't remember hardly any buzz on Murray. It was all Oregon.

Yes, but there were AT LEAST 20% CB picks for him. I know it's a "joke" -- but there was at least SOME hope -- and some reliable "pro-UK" twitter sources were saying Murray to UK. But yes, still a big surprise.

Remember the Murray thing, and had he gone to Oregon, that team would have been title worthy. They were more cohesive than our Ulis/Murray backcourt.

But if you asked Cal, would he say Marcus Camby or John Wall?

Murray was huge because of a few reasons.

1. The mood of the fanbase after the 38-1 team. Everyone was down and needed a lift.
2. So many recruits passed on UK that year. Brown, Zimmerman, and of coarse Malik Newman. We felt like we were going to struggle without a shooter.
3. Murray burst on the scene late and reclassified. We did not really know who he was until Cal started after him late.
4. The Hoop Summit performance. Murray was our backup plan that could just shoot, but then we saw him breakout and drop 30 against the best high school players and we all started realizing he was a star in the making.
5. The crystal balls and "experts" really did not have a clue. We had no idea where he was going and thought Oregon was a real option for him at the time.
6. It was so late in the process. Nobody really thinks you get a season defining player to commit in July, but we got him.

I think all those factors and the beaten down attitude we all had after Wisconsin made it such a big surprise. He came out of nowhere and just became a star almost over night.

I remember a big shift in the Oregon momentum was when a player on their team tweeted something like "want to welcome our newest commit,Jamal Murray." It was right after Murray's visit -- and the player deleted it, but not before being screen grabbed. Still mystified how that happened -- but it definitely added to the drama!

When Wiltjer committed, my first reaction was "who?" Getting a guy who'd never even visited was pretty unexpected. Though, maybe a guy everybody said was going elsewhere (Knox) is more unexpected than a guy I'd never even heard of.

Terrence Jones, easily
This makes no sense as Jones was a huge UK lean for a long time . Even when he committed to UW people thought he might change his mind and he did .
It has to be Bam or Knox IMO . Bam came out of freaking nowhere . Randle seemed to but didn't really. Murray the same as Randle as people just thought oregon but 1-2 insiders like Kersey said the coaches felt real good about it .

I get recency bias, but I thought we had a good shot at everyone in the poll with the exception of Knox. I'm not an expert by any means, but I know who I trust and feel like I can read the general vibe. I honestly thought we were not a serious contender for Knox. Never been so happy to be wrong. Cal's about to have the biggest, longest team he's ever had. I'm giddy.

Not sure how it can be anyone other than T Jones. He had already committed to UW.

His changing to UK was most surprising recruit.

Wiltjer and it ends their. Nobody even knew this kid or even if Cal was recruiting him. All the others mentioned we were following and knew we had offered.

It's Knox hands down...according to nearly everyone, we had ZERO chance.

All those other listed - again, we were heavily in the mix and had scouting people picking UK has landing spot. NO ONE had UK for Know...NO ONE.

You all voting for T. Jones - we were the final 2, so not totally surprised he ended up here. I get perhaps the surprise that he picked Washington, then changed....but still, everyone thought we had at least 50/50 chance.

I'm sorry it does not make sense to you. Not only unexpected but proved to be the most critical of the ones listed. Win/Win situation.

What about Know/or Knox; did he have himself for UK?
