Just wondering if Cal's hip replacement slowed him down enough to throw us off a little this year...we have a phenomenal class, but it seems like we were a recruit or two short versus previous years...hadn't heard it discussed, and figured I'd throw it out there.

Not sure if you're being serious or not but hip replacements usually have a person up and going in no time and it didn't look like his hip was bothering him all season so I doubt it is a factor in recruiting. He has been all over the place seeing recruits and hasn't seemed to slow down at all.

He was in pain during the 2014 season, but had it fixed and was back to normal this year. Everyone wants a theory about recruiting (with a top 3 class that isn't finished yet), but when you look at where the top guys are going, it's just a weird class.

I really think opposing coaches filled these kids heads with, "You will only play 20 min at Ky and won't get many shots. If you come here, you can be the star and get 35 min a game"
Hopefully when 4 or 5 of our guys go first round, that will open some eyes. Coach Cal does not promise playing time and some of these kids are primadona's.

Doubt it... Total Hips usually do really well. Most patients are up walking the day after surgery (depending on sx type). I just think this was weird class and will be considered an outlier in Cal's era when it's all said and done.

Although I don't think it affected recruiting a lot (just a set of circumstances), the OP has a point to a degree. Antigua, our lead recruiter, left right after the NCAA Championship game last year. Then Cal had a book tour if I'm not mistaken. Then had surgery on about May 1st or 2nd...then after getting out of the hospital spent some time in Florida for some rehab and R&R. Don't know when he got back to Lexington, but my brother had hip surgery and he was told to lay off work for 6 to 8 weeks (office type work) and the doctor said even longer for strenuous type work. So I would imagine Cal was still somewhat restricted on travel, etc to at least late July..early August? Now, I haven't taken the time to Google AAU tournament dates and NCAA in-home visit rules, etc...but I would think that between the down time for surgery and Antigua leaving it surely didn't help recruiting.

Did it play a major role on the misses in recruiting we've had the last few weeks? Doubt it.

sorry guys - didn't know I had to spell it out for you...did the fact that Cal was recovering from hip surgery during the off season - and, maybe couldn't spend as much face time with recruits this summer possibly affect recruiting.

Some of you guys are quick to jump up and respond...maybe reflect a little more - or, as my parents always used to say - if you don't have something nice to say KEEP YOUR PIE HOLE shut.

I think you are 100% correct. The platooning last year gave opposing coaches a weapon and they used it. Even though it will not happen this year, the other coaches told them it would.
