The elephant in the room is the University of Kentucky is one of the schools that cant play in the bidding wars for some of these kids. Some say wont, others stick with cant.
Let's just divide up all the college teams into NFL minor leagues and let the Sunday boys pay the Bill's for their future players.

Meh, BBN can and will. Relax.

I was thinking about this yesterday as well but if NIL is really going to be like this then maybe we need a governing body that can even the playing field. Branch out the CFP into divisions or tiers and have 64 minor league programs so that each NFL team has 2 minor league affiliates. Allow 18 year olds to enter the NFL draft. Send those kids to their college programs for a minimum of 2 years.

Or the filthy rich that fleece folks in Lexington daily, can spend it and need to pitch in and not let the rug get pulled from under the program.
If the thoroughbred industry and other major players with deep pockets do not help keep us then we should boycott their business.

I hear you but when we continue to see posts here about Stoops begging fans for NIL, Stoops offering to contribute to NIL and Barnhart saying UK WILL NOT participate in NIL while all of our opponents do, I don’t have much faith. What are you hearing?

Well, not sure why Barnhart would say that because UK clearly is or Oscar would be gone.

I thought we were ahead of the game when NIL started, but now it seems like we are badly behind. Hoping we can get it done, as it would be a shame to lose all of our hard-fought gains.

I know Barnhart has did an admirable job considering the entirety of the requirements. But ultimately he will be judged by our football and our basketball success. And if he talks out both sides of his mouth over adults having a drink at the game, because of his personal opinions ( in the state known for bourbon) then I am concerned over this ever changing new approach.

Id demand he adapt to the realities or adapt to a new office and home elsewhere. Glad your wholesome and all but the past few UT athletic directors are not draped with that millstone and heavy burden. And if his own beliefs demand we plunge back into some kind of disadvantage in football, then I’d demand adaptations,….or go build up someone else’s softball team and basket weaving and lacrosse teams.

to some degree, it is true UK will have more trouble than others. We don't have a major stadium, we don't have a huge merch sales pool, we are in a small market, our fans are bball fans first and we do not have the booster make up that a traditional power does but that doesn't mean they cannot compete on the NIL trail. UK has money and businesses around it and alumni and people willing to donate like anyone else and they don't have to compete with bama when it comes to the NIL Deals, they just have to restore the balance. It adds another layer to recruiting I think, you don't waste as much time on long shots

Herro:. The players get NIL, maybe not as much as some schools, though with Oscar he is at the top of the pay scale. Recruits so far are not (from what we read) getting NIL, while other schools are involved in a bidding was as the OP put it.

CR: Was he begging fans or the Admin to get behind him? UTs collective was formed by a couple former players. Anyone can be a part of it though

Point taken and its a good one, piercing my heart and lung simultaneously. Although, I find it hard to believe that UK recruits are not getting guaranteed NIL deals already, if they commit to Kentucky.

Under the original intent of NIL we were ahead of the game. Now, it's basically openly paying players to commit. We are behind in this

Berea, he was on ksr last week begging listeners to buy into NIL…there’s another thread about the call.

Then you are calling CMS a liar. He has been on live radio twice that I have heard him say that NO UK football recruit has been offered NIL money and that Mitch forbids them to do so.

Yeah. I knew you didn't mean it that way. Just didn't know if you had actually heard all that CMS has said about the football program's current recruiting problem caused by the way MB has forced them to handle NIL.

A coach the caliber of CMS will not have to beg for too long. Someone, maybe not UK, but someone looking for a program builder and a solid football coach will give him what he needs to run a top level program at their school.

I hope that doesnt happen. Stoops is 2 wins away from passing the Bear and becoming the winningest football coach in UK history.

Not a fan of capitalism and letting the market decide who gets the talent huh. That opinion can't be very popular on this board.

Every coach in the country has to say that. A player we were recruiting last year tells a different story.

I hope CMS stays at UK it makes the conference stronger, and I believe he does. But if someone like Texas came alone and offer a contract to big to turn down, plus very liberal in the use of NIL. Would UK give Vince Marrow his shot? I know he is very well regarded with the UK fans and is CMS's right hand man. If Kirby gets hire away I think UGA would do with Schuman, our ILB coach and Co DC. He is the game planner for us and is Kirby's right hand man. Don't think either is leaving, just conversation.

Who is the player?
WR is all I'll say. Not my story to tell, it was a good sum of money but nothing like what is being talked about recently. It wasn't offered per se, more along the lines of "there is NIL money there for a guy like you". I posted about it around the end of last year.

There were the stories about Addison that transferred from Pitt to USC. There was nothing substantiated on those claims which came from Pitt fans

That isn't who I was talking about. This was a local to Kentucky kid. I know one of his family members.

I choose to believe our coach who is practically begging for help with NIL from boosters and his AD, rather than some random player who we "were recruiting" last year.

Why did that player not take the deal and sign with UK???

Pretty sure that dude used that "offer" to leverage more money from the school he DID sign with.

With MB our AD, there is no telling who he would hire. He might have Joker still on speed dial or waiting in the wings for a second chance.

He will obviously have to settle for a lower tier coach or another up and coming OC or DC.

No established coach will ever want to coach a team the school AD and boosters don't support NIL for recruits.

The last part is the only part of what you said that I disagreed with. Technically, we (UK) are not giving out money before the player is enrolled. Technically that’s a true statement, however I believe what I was told, they had no reason to lie about it, assurances are being given that money is there. That’s why I said every coach has to say that. It’s against the rules to give the money prior to enrolling.
