Calipari on Paul Finebaum Show today

Right after the first 2 hours of football recruiting and an hour and 45 minutes before the Alabama football historical analysis, Bear Bryant worship, classic SEC football top 5 games, and Spring football preview…….It will be in that 15 minute period and consist of the 5 minutes right before the 10 minute segment on why Nick Saben is the best coach in football.

They will also have to fit Cal in between calls from Phyllis, Tammy, Jimbo, Bubba, and Cletus from Alabama and Louisiana.

As the other poster said, on the rare occasion they do talk hoops on that show it is usually a little 10-15 minute segment right at the end of the show. It is pretty pathetic.

To be fair, they are going to talk about what gets ratings, and that is not SEC basketball.

That said, the show is pretty unwatchable in the off-season. I enjoy it during football season, but I have no idea how they make a 4 hour show in the off-season. Anyone watch it lately? I just think college football all year around is so boring. There is nothing to talk about, other than signing day and who might start at QB for Alabama...who cares about the latter as we won't know til August probably.

Believe it or not Finebaum has had Tony Delk and Barry Booker on there to talk hoops. I know, I about passed out when I saw it. SEC now has spent quite a bit of time discussing SEC hoops, so there is hope yet....

Just wondering if he has or will have ANYONE from Virginia to talk about basketball? I mean he should, after all he thinks they are number 1 in College Basketball.

After many years of listening daily I no longer tune in, haven't tried in months. I gave it a shot once it was ESPNized but it's just too awful to listen to now, zero entertainment value. Finebaum is like a zombie now and the snotty Penn St producer is an arrogant prick.

^^^ This!!! Actually both of them are arrogant pricks….. Paul is getting damn near intolerable since his ESPN gig.

Since nobody seemed to get around to answering your question,he comes on @ 3:00 et. Channel 611 on direct TV. As far as the actual minute he will be on, I have no ideal.!!

He's been shamed by his new colleagues into disliking the audience that got him where he is today. Now it's all about involving national callers from the North and the Big Ten (same boring tones and takes) and catering to the B/C-list talkng heads and former athletes/coaches that regurgitate the same crap over and over.

I mean when you let Pete Thamel come on weekly and spout off his nonsense and then you rave about him and kiss his arse the quality of your show has gone downhill. He also now worships Colin Cowherd who trashes the South and SEC fans every chance he gets. Finebaum's a sellout plain and simple.

I don't think John is arrogant at all. Maybe if you watched the show enough, you would know how off that is. The guy seems pretty laid back, but knows his stuff. I watched plenty during football season, so I'll take my sample size over you "giving it a shot once" and such, but everyone is entitled to an opinion on how they take someone. He is a lot more interesting than Finebaum, that is for sure. Paul is so boring and bland, at least when John gets in and talks some it adds a little flavor to the show. I agree with you on Paul being zombified a bit now. He used to be better on the radio. He is hit and miss as far as showing the fire he can exhibit, but on the examples I listed below he certainly has.

Your other comment below about Paul just kissing butt to all his guests is simply not true. He has gotten into it with Danny Kannell with his anti-SEC rants (Danny ended up being right though, props to him. It only took him like 7-8 years to get one year right where the SEC football was a bit overrated), Joey Galloway, Mike Bianchi (they really got into it the day after OSU won the title as Paul did not like the blanket statements Bianchi gave on why Meyer was 100% better than Saban), etc.

^ the show took 9 months off before it joined the ESPN radio network, was on there for a while before it started on TV in August with the SEC Network. I continued to listen as it morphed from good entertainment to sucking on espn radio and being awful on TV. I gave it a shot once it was on TV, lcontinued to listen via radio as it's not my cup of tea to plant my ass on the couch and watch men talk about sports.

Did you listen regularly before the show came on TV? Before it went to ESPN radio? If not you have no basis to compare.

I've had convos on Twitter with Jim from Tuscaloosa and Darriel from Georgia, two of the most infamous callers, they both agree with me about the show sucking now and that John is an arrogant prick. Along with many other longstanding listeners that communicate those feelings on Twitter.
*edit--see below post for what I wanted to add, too jumbled here.

also, I named just two people that he sucks up to, and that is correct. When I said the show caters to I meant that's now a large priority for the show, having on mostly the same B/C list talking heads that talk for a while without saying anything new or entertaining, they are a snooze fest. You mentioned Mike Bianchi, Paul has gone back and forth with him for years, they will get at each other as will Paul and Danny Sheridan. That kind of stuff I enjoyed. And you are right about Kannell and Galloway, Paul argued against them too once on TV, but I didn't need to hear them weekly.

I don't think he is gonna be on today….. I have been kinda listening and watching and I have not heard any mention to this point….. But I am kinda halfway watching. I would think he would have mentioned Cal being on today at the head of the broadcast though.

Interview with Cal just wrapped up

As someone above posted, ESPN held Cal for the last fifteen minutes segment so they could keep the Kentucky crowd around as long as they could and make their ratings look better

Cal said basically the same stuff he said in his presser today, talking about "Is a loss good?" and rambling on about UMass beating UK in 96 then losing in the national semifnials, IU beating 2012 then us blowing them up in the Sweet 16....

About the only thing new was Cal said the team had a "GREAT, competitive practice" today

So take it for what it's worth

Finebaum had Pat Forde on a few days ago to talk UK hoops (as well as college football). He's actually covered our basketball team a fair amount, considering approximately zero percent of his listening audience cares about our basketball team.

Be fair my eye tooth... There's nothing fair about the Finebaum show... They have hundreds of shows better than his show every night down south... Paul supposed to represent ESPN and SEC..... I'm told he's on the way out, but to be fair, you can probably find him down south somewhere with Bubba and Ruby......

Cal will have to argue with Phyliss about the Tide for 30 minutes before he can mention the Cats..

^ He said on the show today that he can't really talk about basketball…… Said he liked it (which contradicts what he has said in the past when he admitted he had no interest in it)….. Basically said it was boring until March and nobody wanted to talk about it…….. He said this in response to the second call that came in trying to talk about basketball (caller was from Ocala FL)….. The guy simply asked why they were talking about football when it was basketball season….. Paul said it was basically boring and nobody wanted to hear about it.

Jason…. I guess that sort of backs up your point…… However, it is sad and I think it is a WASTE of 4 hours a day on the SEC network during basketball season. I guess roll friggin tide and war arse eagle.

Guys, I know people who measure this stuff and audiences. There are only a handful of markets that give a damn about BB. Ky/ind. carolinas
The rest of US cares only about March and that is it. The Xm college BB vs. FB is staggering in listenership. .
These shows are driven by what people want to talk about. It is not going to be BB for any team other than UK until signing day. Than it will be sporadic at best. FB registers tons more callsand listens than Spring FB practice down South.

Honestly I wouldn't sweat the talk or lack of BB talk. It would surprise you and disappoint the lack of interest these BB shows do compared to Any FB show, recruiting or otherwise. The interest is just not there. People in 2-3 areas care.
IMO
