But it seems to me like our big guys are doing that to us this year. Coach Cal knows that they are very limited in what they can do at both ends of the floor so I don't see things getting any better this year.

I don't think there's any hijacking going on, they just suck with the exception of Poythress*.

*when he shows up, at least.

They havent hijacked anything. Cal has options at every position. It's up to him to put guys in the game and put them in a position to succeed. He's admitted that he was forcing Skal to play in a position that is not him.

If he was wanting a banger then he should have went hard after Swanigan instead of Skal.
Need to play zone but he refuses too. Costs him wins but he doesn't care.

With all due respect, I don't think you understand the meaning of "hijack" as Cal was using it. When Cal made that statement, he was talking about players putting their personal issues/agendas head of the program. It's generally assumed he was talking about Harrow.

That's not happening this year. I don't think there are any bad apples on this team. There are guys that, frankly, aren't UK-level talent - or at least the type of talent we've come to expect since Cal has been here. But there isn't anyone hijacking the team.

By "Hijacked", he meant with selfish play. Our Bigs aren't selfish, they just aren't very good by our standards. We whiffed on some big name Bigs and Skal hasn't panned out. It's rough out there. Anybody expecting a championship more than once a decade or longer will drive themselves insane. There's reason we only have eight in the entire history of the program. Duke only has FIVE titles in the history of their program !

There are reasons Lee was playing behind guys like Dakari and of course better players, there was a reason Willis couldn't see the light of day playing behind much better players, and quite frankly the same can be said of Poythress in his past. All good role players off the bench but not exactly elite to where they are better than other players. And, of course, Skal has been a complete miss in terms of an impact player at center.

Lol.

Seriously, no one is highjacking this team. Don't be a jagoff. Are some more interested in their stock than playing hard and with passion? Maybe. Don't know.

When did he know about their limitations? Was it before or after he recruited them? I don't recall there being any talk about any limitations when they were being recruited.

He was referring to personalities and selfish play back then. Murray seems like the only player on this team that could potentially fit that description and do his own thing.

Cal says a lot of things. Those on here that believes Cal is infallible says you can't believe what he says.

I don't recall him putting it like that. It would be quite inaccurate if he did. Players cannot hijack anything. Coaches fill the roster and dole out the minutes. I think he worded it as that he wasn't going to be in the position again of having to play players because he didn't have a choice.

The '13 team had one colossal headcase. The team doesn't have that that type of player. For the most part, Cal has said these guys try to do what he asks of them.

That said, Cal has also mentioned how if they don't play hard, they'll lose. Last night was a perfect example of lack of exertion coming back to bite them.

Best post of the year!!!

UK fans are just ridiculously stupid in their expectations. Expectations have to be seasoned with historical reality.

Guys, I just think a lot of this is a testament to the fact that the 2015 crop of recruits (outside of Ben Simmons) was just weak. It was basically a weak class and we, more than anybody, reap the results. Sure we lost out on a few guys that could have positionally helped us, but in reality, before the season started did anybody think Skal would be the bust that he's been? We fell prey to a weak class in the NIT year as well, this one is a little better than that, but still kinda weak overall and we are feeling it.

Great recruiter, not so great in-game coach. Again, we refuse to run any semblance of an offense and we really do not have any clue how to defend once the first man gets beat. We do fine when our talent is far superior, but we're not that great when it's not. I'd like to the coach actually coach than just say they don't know how to win and their freshman, etc. etc.

Brewdoggy said it, and it's true. We missed on the bigs we went after. Skal wasn't Cals target to man the post. I know quite a bit about Skals recruitment. Of course Cal wanted him, but he wasn't the main or first option to start the 5 spot. We missed and we got what we got. It happens. Now, cal is doing his best with what we have. The two island boys were brought in for a reason - practice. That's the deal, plain and simple.

Exactly ^^^, although I took it to mean Goodwin & Harrow.
Although I'm not convinced that there may not be a little of that going on with Murray.

2 of which were won in the past 6 years
