Cal putting together another telethon

You have to love how under his watch we have continually had good press with players and program in general. We have always been big to help support disasters. He is the perfect coach for our program and I'm thankful to have him.

Why would he use red cross? Reason I won't give a dime to it.. Give it to Salvation Army or even better local churches,, etc,, so most all actually goes to Houston,, not 40-50% if lucky through RC..

Don't worry, the Clintion Foundation will be donating TONS of money. Just save your cash.

UK MBB to Host Telethon for Hurricane Harvey Victims on Sunday“Teaming Up For Texas” will air Sunday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on WKYT and its affiliates

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Humbled by the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, John and Ellen Calipari, Joe and Kelly Craft, and the Kentucky men’s basketball team – in conjunction with WKYT – will host a telethon Sunday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on WKYT and its affiliates across the state. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the American Red Cross to benefit the victims of the catastrophic storm.

The “Teaming Up For Texas” telethon will air throughout the state (current affiliates are below), as members of the UK men’s basketball team will take phone calls and donations. Special guests are expected to participate in the show.

Details on how to donate and the telethon phone numbers will be released closer to the telethon.

“I have not been able to stop thinking about everyone who has been affected by Hurricane Harvey,” John Calipari said. “Every time I turn on the TV, I’m stunned at the images of devastation in Texas. It hits home for me because of the players we’ve had come from that area, including Andrew and Aaron Harrison, De’Aaron Fox and now Jarred Vanderbilt. Thankfully their families are safe, but there are a whole lot of people down there who aren’t as fortunate.

“The Big Blue Nation has already been terrific in helping us raise $150,000 for the victims of Hurricane Harvey by showing up to last week’s UK Alumni Charity Game and the response to the University of Houston’s call earlier this week for clothing has been terrific, but we can do even more. I hope our fans will join me, Ellen, Joe and Kelly Craft, and our team in helping raise money this weekend. No donation is too small.”

Teaming Up For Texas will be streamed live at WKYT.com, UKathletics.com, CoachCal.com, and on the official@UKCoachCalipari and @KentuckyMBB Facebook pages.

UK has held two previous telethons under Calipari to assist with natural disasters. In 2010, Kentucky and Calipari used a telethon to raise more than $1 million for victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti. UK followed that up with another telethon in 2012 that generated $1 million for victims of Superstorm Sandy. Calipari also helped raise funds for West Liberty, Kentucky, after tornadoes ravaged the town in 2012.

Just tell Anthony Davis to donate that $200k we gave him and it will help out a lot. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Seriously though, let's see how many news outlets bring up the telethon besides local ones. They would rather report negative stuff than good things like this. I wonder if any other major program will do something like this? I'd expect Duke or Kansas to copy us like they always do.

Could you imagine if Mike Krzyzewski did a telethon like this? ESPN would probably televise it, & make Krzyzewski out to be Mother Teresa.

This is absolutely something that ESPN/ESPN2 or one of their affiliates should televise. CBSSports etc. Any of those national sports outlets. This would be for a phenomenal cause. I can hear teams now though saying, "this is an unfair recruiting advantage". No... It is helping those in need during this horrific storm.

Pretty neat that the new Ambassador to Canada will be there, pretty big time recruit from Canada on recruiting visit. Like it. If you can raise millions for Houston with this telethon and also impress a top 2 recruit with ambassador to your country then maybe someone will call Cal a genius. UL and Duke fans will be claiming he is taking advantage of tragedy to get Barrett.
