Some may say NC st guy is backup plan and we still have shot at brown but I think Cal knows something. The way this late period has gone I dont see any hope of brown committing.

Or it means Cal has open scholly's, likes what he saw from a kid and wants to develop some more multi-year talent.

BTW - Murray works just as well at the 3-spot as Brown does for the Cats.

Cal has stated he does not recruit committed players. I wonder what the story is on that one. Did he commit and we didn't know and offered? If we had known he did and offered him anyways it means that Cal is turning over rocks in trying to land some guys.
If we had Hawkins and Willis more prepared to make the next step instead being hid in the bushes I would be feeling better about next year.

I don't think the two are related. This kid wouldn't play for us next year even if he does pick UK, so he can't be considered a replacement. I think he sees him as a four year player that he can coach up to be waiting in the wings in case we have another year like last where all of the NBA prospects leave.

ya don't say...

Brown is ADIDAS all the way, and we've seen time and time again how that always comes back to screw us. No matter how much we like a guy as a person and a player, we just need to stop recruiting and offering those types, straight up, and focus all our efforts on the kids that don't have forces pulling them from us. Not getting my hopes up for him in the slightest. Sucks for Brown and for us since I think he's a Calipari guy at heart, but that's just the way it is.

I keep saying it, our best hope is Murray. We need to get him on campus and get him locked up, and take our chances running 3 skilled guards at a time with 2 posts.

Glad we didn't take this approach with the Harrison twins given their relationship with Under Armour.

Daddy Harrison is a military man and was never going to allow outside clutter affect his boys decision.

Brown's people... remains to be seen, but I'm not encouraged from what I've heard about them and their thoughts on UK. I hope it turns out good for both Brown and UK's sake, though.

Brown to Michigan is starting to become the consensus; it seems that most of these recruits just dont care about winning a championship. So be it, we should still be able to make a deep run. Hopefully we get Murray and Kirk.

Only 2 of Brown's 5 choices are adidas.. And Michigan hasn't renewed their contract yet with them.. Mulling an offer from under armour..

Michigan is locked up with Adidas for at least (and hopefully only) the next year. By the following season, Brown will be playing in the NBA.

It's not like he'd be committing to Troy. Michigan made the NC game in 2013 and Elite 8 in 2014. If Brown came to Michigan, this team would be as talented and deeper than either of those two squads. As good as Kentucky? No. You don't have to be as good as Kentucky to be a NCAA Championship contender, though.

But the sad thing is some of the elite recruits have about a 50% say to where they're going.

John Wall's handler DID NOT want Wall coming to UK & pushed Duke hard. John Wall went against the grain & more or less told him to deal with it because it was his decision & he wanted to play for Cal.

That's very rare these days.

Yup. The combination of these three things are what looks to be edging Brown towards Michigan:
1. His mother being from Michigan and having family still in Michigan.
2. Adidas affiliation.
3. Michigan being a good (not great) program.

Maybe Cal is tired of letting other programs run UK down. I hope he takes off the gloves and stops with the nice guy routine. Time to burn down some villages.

I have my doubts that Cal watched the kid commit, and the two things happened in such a short span between one another, it can easily be misconstrued. If somebody had to relay the information that Cal offered the kid a scholarship while he was on his visit or something, only the person who relays that information could know which thing took place first, and he may not even know.

Agreed, and I mean this with no offense to Kirk, but does he honestly sound like the level of talent that Cal or any coach at a high level would go after knowing he was committed elsewhere and knowing how petty and vindictive that people in the college basketball coaching profession (and their writer buddies) can be? I know it's common in football recruiting, but not basketball.

Would be surprised if Cal knew the kid had already committed elsewhere before he offered. Don't think any coach would (or should) intentionally anger those NC State psychos.

Gotta disagree with number 3. Quality of the program has nothing to do with this class. Case in point.....Arizona State is now considered the leader for Thon Maker. That would leave us with Ben Simmons going to LSU, Malik Newman going to Mississippi State, Thon Maker going to Arizona State, Zimmerman to UNLV and potentially Jamal Murray to Oregon.

Next year may be the year a Wichita State type of team wins the tourney.

Cal would not offer anybody in the 2015 class unless he needed then to contribute next year.

Pretty sure Wiggins was heavily Nike.

Doubt Cal is worrying about what their idiotic fan base thinks. If Cal thinks Kirk can help Kentucky, I hope he goes full blast after him.

Wiggins was an ADIDAS kid

Wiggins came up in the grassroots system as a Nike kid--and part of his signing bonus with Adidas was given to him when he attended Kansas. This is shoe company thing--and happens. Newman and Diallo also were Nike kids and chose Adidas schools. Ingram was Adidas and chose Nike.

True enough, but I dont think most recruits worry about winning a title anymore. To be honest, I have no clue what really goes on behind the scenes of these recruiting battles. I am not sure what is hurting us in recruiting this year, I am starting to think it was the platooning. Cal is a great salesman and one of the best recruiters ever, so I am sure he is just as surprised as us as to what is going on right now.

Agreed!! Great point. With 2016 being as stacked as it is, especially for guards, combos, and wings, I don't see Cal extending an offer to anyone that he doesn't want immediate impact from next year. I have to call it how I see it and this looks like a desperation move at this moment. Things may change and I may see the intent of the offer in a different light later with how some things play out but it doesn't look like a confident move right now. Just sayin.

Unlike you, I value different perspectives and opinions. It's also nice to see that not all UK fans are as bat-shit crazy as the few bad apples on the National Board.
Most of the opinions on the national board are ridiculous. Like that time you told us Josh smith would make the Pistons a contender.

The one thino I don't understand about these kids spurring us for other schools is that they will be playing out of position and practicing against scrubs.

It doesn't really help jaylen brown at the next level to play the 4 in college (llike hell be forced to if he goes to Michigan similar to the role of gr3). He will be guarded by a position he won't be guarded by in the pros and he will be guarding a position he won't be guarding in the pros. It doesn't help you to be a major mismatch for your opponent. It just means that there's a false sense of your offensive abilities.

He will also be practicing against some 3 star instead of some 4 star or 5 star. This is why it's ridiculous for diallo to be going to Kansas. Why play the 5 in college and practice against jamari Traylor when you can play the 4 at Kentucky and practice against poythress/llee?

I think this is the main reason our guys are so good so fast. They go up against a player that's a high major prospect instead of some 2 star or walk on so they get better competition in practice than they get in the games sometimes.

These kids just can't see the forest for the trees, most days.

Strange, usually UK fans go to the national board to get away from the ridiculousness of the rafters.

One huge thing that get's lost in all the recruiting back and forth is that these are kids. 17 and 18 year olds. Without good guidance...they can't see the forest.

You guys can't honestly endorse the b/s crazy preaches, can you? Surely the entire fanbase doesn't believe every player who doesn't attend Kentucky is an idiot.....
