By contract, can we just suspend Cal?

He is the only coach in America that has no on court performance incentives built into his contract so I would say we can’t suspend him.

He can lose every game and make as much money if he won every game.

Has to be one of the dumbest contracts in history 😡
I dont care about pay, just get him off the court. Pay him 10M to bring Bilas some ice cream.

The only thing he could potentially be suspended for is his lack of or minimal time spent on his post game radio show. And that would most likely just be a fine. But it’s not happening anyways.

If he was suspended, O would the interim.

What about 2(g) or for that matter, does the contract lay out when he can be suspended?

O is contractually next in line, regardless?

He’s the top assistant as Associate Coach, so I can’t see a reason why he wouldn’t be.

We know 100% that it’s not Ulis. He’s an undergraduate student assistant. He’s most likely not even a full-time employee tbh.

We can look at the contract as much as possible, but he’s not going to be suspended for blowing off a post game show. He’s just not. Could an AD fine or suspend a coach for that…I suppose. But not a coach that’s never been suspended or fined prior to that.

That section isn't about post game shows.

Calipari's UK contract can be terminated only for cause. If, for example, the contract provides that "cause" includes the commission of a felony criminal offense, the University has the power to suspend him until the felony charge is adjudicated and then terminate him if he is convicted. To suspend him because you don't like his coaching methods or because his win/loss record is less than satisfactory, however, would be without cause and tantamount to a dismissal and constitute a breach of the contract. Calipari would have all the remedies as the contract provides.

His remedy would be to pay his salary. Of course MB could instruct him to not appear at the games .

If there is no negotiated settlement for a reduced amount and/or installment payments and you breach the contract by terminating Calipari without cause, he has no duty to UK and his remedy is the damages specified in the contract in a lump sum.

you are not terminating him if you continue to pay him. just instructing him to not perform his coaching duties . But he does still get paid.

I posted somewhere. Demote him to women's coach. Just pay him to stay in Memorial. Let Ulis and Welch finish season. Win win.....Hopefully

Someone else had mentioned making him coach the women’s team. The more I think about it the more that sounds feasible. You could fire Elzy for a cheaper price and move Cal to her position and let him coach out the remainder of his contract. He can get as many one and done women’s players to the WNBA without the worry of having to win Championships. Win win for all those involved.

I think we need to find some minor infraction that amounts to nothing but use it against him to push him out , a show clause type thing , turn it in to the NCAA knowing it's a nothing burger , but find some fine print maybe that can oust him from his ivory tower .

His fragile little ego would be crushed, especially when he's exposed and outcoached by women... [laughing]

"Coach is hereby employed by the University as the Head Men's Basketball Coach ... Coach's duties, responsibilities and obligations shall be those normally associated with the position of head men's basketball coach at a NCAA Division I university such as the University of Kentucky."

You can still relieve him of those responsibilities. You just have to pay him.
You do not gave to let him coach .

Actually, the contract states he receives his liquidated damages for termination without cause (75% of his scheduled compensation for the remainder of the term) "to be paid on a monthly basis." So, "relieve him of his duties" without termination and pay 100% of his salary for the remainder of the contract term or send the notice of discharge letter and reduce the monthly payments to 75%.

Or (a) encourage him to elect the Special Assistant to AD position, or (b) negotiate a lump sum settlement to terminate the contract by mutual agreement.

Relieving him of duties would be far more embarrassing. No way he stays the duration of the contract under those circumstances. He’d be panned by the media mercilessly.

Who’s hiring the PI to get the evidence?
