Thank you for supplying the stream today. I would not have been able to watch the game without it.

Saved me so many times on my night shifts. Always appreciate anyone who looks out for people unselfishly like that. I remember downloading the 2,000th win game and burning it onto a dvd for my uncle to watch when he was getting pretty sick. I was in high school at the time lol doesn't seem like its been as long as it has

I’d like to learn more about his streaming setup. Since COVID I’ve come into a lot of streaming knowledge and equipment, maybe it or I could be of use
I basically use the capture card "Hauppauge HD PVR 60" and have it hooked into my cable box/DVR via HDMI cable but you will need an HDCP Stripper: https://amzn.to/3niBYQX, it's basically an HDMI splitter if you do not want to buy that you can simply just use the red green and blue component cables with red and white audio cables and hook it up into the capture box from your DVR.

This youtube video explains a lot of what I do - but it's not everything shown in this video.

To stream I use XSplit Broadcaster to help push out the stream but there are several different ones out there like OBS that's a bit more popular, but I just use what I've been comfortable with. along with that, I use the website restream.io, which allows you to stream in 3 places at one time if you need to.

Its easier than it looks, i remember when i first started streaming it felt like rocket science but just kept watching youtube videos to help me figure it all out.

The main thing if you plan on streaming somewhere and do what i do, its tough to find places to do it. Never stream anything professional sports, will get your stream axed fast. Its tough to stream anything related to the NCAA tourney including the selection show. Copyright police are all over that for some reason.

Anyways thats pretty much what I do/use. Hope it helps

haha when you say doesnt feel like ive been doing this as long as its been...tell me about it.. didn't stream till either BCG last season or Cals first, but ive been providing downloads since Tubby Years. Back then I was provding games for download in WMV format.

@BillionthUKFan taught me how to encode back in the day, which im forever grateful for, made my videos look so much better than they use to

I have had the worst luck with the HD PVR 60 and the Pro 60 HD 4K. Been through about 8 or better of them with several sitting around in an old drawer. I use the El Gato HD60 S+ to record TV for video clips I occasionally put out on YouTube. I have recorded a few games before but never could figure out the streaming. File sizes in the end are always huge pushing 8-10 GB and amazed how you get it down to just a couple for most games.

I remember Billionth too now that i read it! I know i would download from a site as well at some point and it was all discovered here. Appreciate both yall and anybody else doing the little things to help out your fellow fans! I swear if i made an effort to pull old stuff out I'd find that plain white DVD with UK2K scribbled on it

Sounds good! I’ve got an older stream deck thst does HDMI and component… which luckily strips HDCP and has a pass through. Then some Elgato and Blackmagic gear that might need the stripper. Also some older desktops that can still handle VGA and DVI without HDCP at 1080p. I use OBS for some stuff but like you said, it’s personal preference. What bitrate should I be wanting to target for the stream? I feel my quality is pretty good anywhere at 4Mbps and below. And do you make a unique streaming key or funnel it through a YouTube/Facebook/whatever? My job basically just has me push it to zoom and I’m done with it, but I’m still a little fuzzy on streaming it to the wild.

I’ve had great luck with the Elgato HD60 too. For file sizes, I run it through Adobe media encoder, but a free program called Handbrake can do the same thing. The stuff I render is usually about one hour, and at 3 to 3.5 Mbps I can get it to about 1.2GB. I encode in H.264, H.265 can yield better files sizes but has some problems and licensing issues. There’s a new one emerging but I can’t remember the name lol

Edit: it should be noted what I encode has many repeated frames, like a PowerPoint that stays on the same image for minutes at a time, which means by doing VBR or two pass VBR I can save a lot of space versus like, a tv show that moves around a lot

Thank you for your helpful post. Going to give Handbrake a try to get more familiar with the encoding process.
