For fighting twice with a lineman. No biggie their for me as tempers flare and guys are vying for position but did any of you guys see him play yet? I am a Steelers fan and have not had the chance to watch him play in the preseason but a lot of my buddies have. They don't follow UK or much college football and have made lots of comments about Dupree being a horrible pick and how terrible he is. Only one of em their took up for him saying he will be all right. I told them he was a project and don't expect great things right away but give him some time.

What have you guys seen out of him.

Looks like he is thinking too much - negates the speed that is the strength of his game.

He has definitely struggled in the times I've watched him play. Having a hard time getting off blocks against O-lineman and TEs alike which hurts his productivity against the run, and he also hasn't generated any form of a consistent pass rush as of yet. Overall I would say he's played quite poor.

He is a bit of a project so there's a good chance he improves(and I expect him to TBH), but he's struggled so far.

Bud will be fine. Too much raw talent not to be. As soon as he stops thinking and starts playing, he'll be a QB's nightmare. The Steelers coaches are really high on him. He will be an impact player, and a steal at where he was drafted.

While I was in Louisville for a car show a couple of weeks ago, spoke with someone who knew James Harrison. Harrison had said Bud was too soft. He followed with saying Harrison thought everyone was soft. It's probably good news to see Bud has some fight in him.

History and the media didn't do Bud any favors.

When you take a 1st rd draft pick, you expect them to be a fairly large contributor from the get go. Often 1st rd draft picks are considered an instant starter.......or an instant rotational player.

Now, here's Bud. He's raw. His technique and play was not 1st rd pick quality, but his potential and athleticism are off the charts......hence, why he went in the 1st rd. Before the draft, teams were polled as to where they thought Bud was. Someone like Amari Cooper was rated a top 10 pick by darn near every single NFL team......but some teams had bud as high as pick 10.......and some teams had him in the mid-2nd.

Pittsburgh fans are starting to realize that he's not going to be an ultra-stud early on this yr and they are voicing frustration.

Bud is a gym rat......he's football savvy......and his athleticism is through the roof. He'll be good for them in time.

Bud went a little higher in 2015 than UofL grad Marcus Smith did in 2014, but both were draft day risers - both ended up as first round picks (Smith went to the Eagles). They have very similar situations - both played most of the time in a three point stance during college, and they are both transitioning to a 3-4 OLB position in the pros.

The points being made on here about "thinking too much" are exactly right. When you have the kind of talent both of those guys have, the game becomes very easy in your last year of college. You can even get away with "thinking too much" in college, because you're that much better than most everyone you're going against. In the pros, it's much more obvious when someone is "thinking".

Smith struggled to make the transition all last year, and rarely saw the field the last half of the season. He's still being groomed as a 3-4 outside linebacker, but he is also being cross-trained as an inside linebacker in that scheme. If Bud continues to struggle, I would not be surprised if the Steelers does the same thing (cross-trains him as both an ILB and OLB). The ILB's are the "captains" of the defense, and they make the defensive adjustments. It's a very good way to teach a new OLB how the defense works, so that the assignments become second nature. It seems to be working for Smith this year, as he played significantly better in his first preseason game against the Colts.

Hopefully for Bud, the Steelers do well enough this year that his struggles do not become a focal point for criticism of the coaching staff and management. Luckily for Smith last year, the Eagles did just well enough under first year HC Chip Kelly that it did not become a big issue.

sometimes it's good to show a little "fire"! Remember the practice fight scene from North Dallas 40? Bud is in a new world now, he's no longer the big fish in a small pond! He will get his aspirin kicked a lot the first year or to BUT he has the talent that in the end will keep him around for a nice 8-10 year career (if he's injury free). I don't see any "defensive player of the year" selections but he's definitely good enough to play in the NFL.

I think he will be fine as a rotation player on defense. Getting into a fight is not a big deal...getting into two in the same session and getting booted from practice? Needs to slow the row a bit and get control of the emotions.

Well I do like that he is getting pissed off and getting mad and it's more like frustration and mad at himself than anything.
I hope he's going to work out. Love having a UK guy on the team. They were all asking me about some Heard kid we signed in free agency that played at UK. So I'm gonna enjoy it a good bit if both see the field. :)

fans may get impatient but the steelers are a good long term team. they'll wait on him and it will probably be next year before he really starts to flourish but he's gonna make some plays this year he's just not gonna be all pro right out of the box... but he does have that kind of ability.

Bud is 6'5 270 pounds. He is an athletic fream, but he shouldn't be utilized as a coverage linebacker. He's a rush end, and that's what he should be doing 90% of snaps.
