Well..... Glad we have both of these guys but was the three point shooting and free throw shooting of Hawkins something that gave us a better chance of winning with today?? Hawk can defend and I know Briscoe can as well but......... Hawkins looked really good today. Look forward to having Briscoe back soon. Thoughts??

There is doubt about Hawkins' contribution to this win. The team doesn't win without his 3s.

it is an interesting discussion. one worth having IF hawkins actually shoots it that well all the time. better shot/form than briscoe.

Hawkins had a career game on offense today. If he could hit this way halfway consistently I'd be all for giving him some of Briscoe's minutes.

Give a guy minutes on the court and they will look better and better. If you don't give them the opportunity how are you going to know just how good they are going to be. After saying that Hawkins will go back to the bench and Briscoe will return to the lineup, he may not be as good but hes going to get those minutes.

The pre-season report on Hawk before he broke his hand, was that he was shooting the ball really well. I'm expecting we will continue to see him contribute offensively when he is in the game. We know his defense will be solid.

Hawkins played great today. Knocked down threes and free throws. Briscoe is a much better rebounder, and we missed that today.

Hawkins will get minutes if he plays like this.

He played well today, but there's a reason he doesn't play more, and it's not because he plays favorites, like you are insinuating. If he does this consistently, I'm all for him playing more, but this is the first game where his shooting wasn't complete garbage, and it's not like he hasn't gotten a chance.

Hawkins really helped out on shooting (3s and FTs) and creating more space for driving lanes because teams don't have to guard Briscoe outside of five feet, but Briscoe is otherwise the much superior player. And that 3-point shooting was uncharacteristically good for Hawkins to begin with. If he shot 3d consistently well I'd have to think he'd be getting more PT in the first place.

i think cal needs to find a combination of players that work where each guy plays to his role.

like you cant have briscoe and mathews play together because neither can shoot.

i do think this is the style of offense uk needs to play. minus murray driving the ball so much (i think thats on cal actually - did it with booker).

murray, ulis, willis, hawkins need to shoot threes. post poythress up more. use lee/skal in pick and roll.

The main player who might lose minutes to Hawkins is Matthews, I don't see Brisco's minutes getting cut much. This was a game where Cal said, at crunch time, I'm going with the players who have the most grit and biggest balls and you look out on the floor and it was Ulis, Murray, Poy, Lee and Hawkins. That's your testosterone team.

If you recall, Hawkins was hitting the 3 ball before his early season injury.

Hawking has the experience plus better BB IQ, Brisco would have been driving today like Murray and might have loss, today they went into Poy which they need to do more of, yet they got away from that at the end of the game..

You are correct about Brisco. Having Brisco starting today would simply have given us another player on the floor that couldn't shoot freethrows, couldn't make a jumpshot and someone else driving into the mouth of the defense for turnovers.

Some good points...... Glad we had Hawk come through today. Like I said, I will be glad to have Briscoe back also. Playing the right combo of these drivers/shooters was a point made in this thread that makes SO much sense. Hopefully we can get healthy enough to get some chemistry at some point soon.... Loved seeing Poy post up strong today aslo.
