How can a top five nationally ranked guard can't shoot more than 40% from the free throw line? I'm dumbfounded on this, did the guy never think to practice this aspect of his game. Good thing, he'll back next season...he'll have this summer to work on his game.

My only speculation is that Briscoe worked so hard on improving his physique-he didn't realize you better work on your shot immediately after because you'll be muscle bound and it effects release--especially with development of his shoulders/triceps. The extension is different. I'm not saying it's an issue--could be he's mentally pysched out-but he was never a good shooter--he was/is a scorer--typical Eastern guard that Slice and Pitt used to get--and it's also why they got their ass kicked in March. (no offense to Isaiah). For those who compare him to UConn guards--they always have shooters on their best teams. El Amin, Anderson/Brown, Walker, Napier, Lamb, etc....those guys dominated the ball but could shoot. Pitt never had that and it's why they suck come March. Slice sucked and this was a guy he talked up to Cal--and now UK has to figure this out. Kid is a tough player and plays hard--but what good is a 6'3 PF in 3 guard attack?

"is a 6'3 PF in 3 guard attack" Wow, been thinking the same thing, he basically plays like a PF who can handle the rock, sad but true...

Look at Pitt's teams under Howland/Dixon--they love this--heck one of their best players was a Lexington kid and similar in approach to Briscoe--Jaron Brown.

All Briscoe can do is dribble and drive. Does no good to get fouled if you can't make free throws and the other team gets the rebounds.

It's like a turnover everytime he shoots anything but layups, and he even struggles with those at times. Cal has to start recruiting better shooters at the guard spots, and he has next season with Fox and Monk.

False. In fact Briscoe does everything very well on the court......except shoot. He plays great defense, great passer and rebounds well. Just cant shoot.

Thing is he's our best driver.

Getting fouled and make free throws is gonna be kinda key for this guy

Guy shot over 70% in high school. There may be truth in fact his muscle gain has affected his shot

It is definitely a concern. As mentioned he does so many other things well that it is hard to pull him.

How does a guard who handles the ball so much, played so much basketball, shoot so many shots suffer so bad?

Yips maybe? Of all the kids I would think he is the mentally tough one.

He is such a bad shooter there is no hope. He has no clue cwhetre its going he shoots bricks way to strong wide right wide left...its brutal to watch

The scary thing is that Cal loves Briscoe...a lot. Because of his toughness. But I dont think this team can afford to have him on the floor. He has absolutely no offensive skill/touch. We dont have enough firepower to waist minutes on Briscoe.

He is the only semblance of toughness we have right now. Poy, Skal and Lee are all very disappointing in the toughness area.

I agree he is one tough player...but he's shooting less than 25% from 3 and less than 40% from the FT line. We don't have enough offensive firepower around him to rely on his toughness. We need guys who can score.

Briscoe has no offensive skills and can't score? LOL. Averaging 12 a game while shooting 49% from the floor with 31 assists. Scored 20 against UCLA. Yeah he sucks shooting outside of 5 feet, that doesn't mean he lacks offensive skills or can't score.

Briscoe cant shoot outside of 5 feet. You think over a course of a year he will be able to get to the rim in SEC play? Wake up. Teams will just foul him on every drive. You cant play as much as he plays and shoot that brutally from 3 and the FT stripe. Unless you have great offensive players around you. And right now the Cats dont.

Is it really true that he shot 70% on FTs in high school? I've heard this said a few times and assume that it is true; and also assume he got fouled a lot and shot a lot of FTs in high school. Going from a 70% shooter to a what he is now (I'm guessing 39% roughly) in a matter of a few months is crazy and unheard of isn't it?

Don't know IB's problem other than no two FTs are shot the same way. That has to change or he will never improve

It is crazy. I would love to hear Briscoe's high school coach talk about what he sees different in his foul shooting technique.

No excuse for a guard to shoot this bad, practice could solve his problem, I never seen a guard shoot this bad, he will set a new record, wow I thank this team was way over rated..

Watch the past few games...Briscoe's man basically slumps off all the way to the FT line. This directly leads to Murray/Ullis driving right into an extra defender and shuts down any drives as they kick to Briscoe...who then can't shoot and can't drive into a pack of guys either. Secondly, Briscoe's man is doubling down right into Skal/Lee/Poy on most post ups....again, causing many TO's when our bigs don't react fast enough.

I love his defense and toughness is a cool moniker....but when your offense is so bad...it is killing the team to be totally honest. Think of this...you can watch basketball for 50 years and you'll find a few handful of bigmen to shoot FT in to the 40% range...you'll never remember a guard shoot this bad. That is how historically bad he is on offense.

Cal needs to play Briscoe only when Ullis/Murray needs a breather...but we'll continue to see him at the SF heavy minutes and it the offensive fiasco will never end all year long. It is 100% an easy decision to play Willis at the SF spot majority of minutes.

Winner here.....If you don't shoot hundreds of shots after working out your muscles remain 'contracted' from the workouts and there is ZERO feel.....Equal amounts of stretching has to take place or the muscles are tight and 'un-coordinated'

Ask pro golfers....the same applies to them when they workout.....they have to stretch a ton and spend lots of time putting or their feel/distance control goes away

"Just can't shoot".........only the most important attribute in the game of basketball........can't score.......can't win

Briscoe kills us at the end of games from the stripe. I'm starting to just think we should just cut ties with a 3-Guard lineup. It's pointless to run it when you've got one Guard shooting 35 percent from the Free-Throw line, and 25% from behind the arc. You've gotta another Guard in Ulis shooting like 20% from 3 this year too. Stastically speaking, that is just dumber than hell to run a 3-Guard lineup with.

Team can't win any Championships with 3 players no threat to score outside of layups. Can't shoot can't win. Most important tool in the game...of course most of the haters on this board wouldn't want Wiltjer on this team either...they would rather have those defensive juggurnats we have inside now

When do we start to hear about Poy, Lee and Ulis getting these guys in the gym for 5am shooting drills? Heck they may be already but if not shooting and team building sure needs work--indy

I like when Briscoe drives to the basket, its like we are saying to our opponents "We aren't afraid to attack your basket"

But it is unusual that he misses free throws. Not sure how to explain it.
