Brett: It's "eager" not "anxious"

Please,please don't use "anxious" when you mean "eager". "Anxious" implies worry, concern and fear none of which accurately describes Ulis's feelings about playing with Mathews. You're a writer who has an obligation to use your tools properly. Your tool is language.
BTW, don' t ever use "fortuitous " to mean "fortunate". "Fortuitous means " coincidental or by chance".
These two words: "anxious" and"fortuitous" are the two most frequently misused words in the English language. Please don't diminish your craft by repeating these errors.
This ends our English lesson. Now back to basketball!

That's right , I forgot. It's "workplace violence" and "man made violence" not Islamic terrorism. It's global warming and now Climate change. It's the "rich don't pay their fair share" while 50% of the citizen's pay none. Is that their "fair share.?I forgot words don't matter. As Humpty Dumpty said;" Words mean what I say they mean." But then I digress. words don't matter. I'm anxious about that. Even on a basketball board.

Serious question: when posters say, "dominate" instead of "dominant" is that kind of like "fast paste?"

I see it so often that I assume it's an intentional mistake.

It's problem a mistake. It's a probably for me too.
 
The non-anxious sense of "anxious to" is common enough to have made it into at least some dictionaries. The New Oxford American Dictionary (bundled with Mac OS X) doesn't include this sense of "anxious to". In fact they have a usage note that reads...

Anxious and eager both mean 'looking forward to something,' but they have different connotations. Eager suggests enthusiasm about something, a positive outlook: : I'm eager to get started on my vacation. Anxious implies worry about something: : I'm anxious to get started before it rains.

So apparently there is not consensus amongst dictionary editors. You know, not that I really care at all. :p

It is also "lose" instead of "loose" such as: "I hope we don't lose next year."
Others: saw/seen, then/than.

I think the op's point was addressed not to random posters, but to a specific person writing in a professional capacity.
 
while you're all so keen on accuracy and respect for the English language, you should go all in and you know, actually pronounce everything like the ENGLISH. incidentally, i think that would be pretty hilarious, some guy with a thick southern accent saying words like "shedule" and "alumineeyum can"
 
So, what the OP said was correct, at least when discussing the grammar. However.....not quite sure what happened after that....?

  1. a person who acts as though he or she knows everything and who dismisses the opinions, comments, or suggestions of others.
 
This was addressed to one person, Brett, a person who uses words to advance in his profession. Just for the record, I recognize that the meaning of words changes over the decades/centuries. I recognize that many use "anxious" to mean 'looking forward". I just believe that looking forward in gleeful anticipation ( "eager" as in Ulis /Mathews) is significantly different from "looking forward with trepidation" ( "anxious" as in concern over our depth at the center position). I did not mean to demean or diminish anyone and in hindsight it would probably been better for me to communicate with Brett directly or "in camera". I didn't know how to do that so I chose, perhaps inappropriately, this public forum. In the future ,I will keep my opinions on non-BBall matters to myself .

If your huge walls of text were addressed to one person, you should try email. It's a new type of correspondence wherein two people can communicate exclusively.

You are calling Brett out on a public forum over a word that he used correctly. You feel "eager" would have been a better choice and that is your prerogative. Just as it is our prerogative to think you are being a jerk.
