Exactly! Effort inside on the defensive end (every play) would be worth $$$$ to him. And it would go a long way to making a great season for us this year.
When watching his post defense and rebounding, I think it is as much lack of court awareness & instincts as it is effort.
Guys who are great rebounders, great assist guys, great shot blockers, etc, have a great read on the floor where they are often 2-3 steps ahead of everyone else. So, whatever they lack in physical attributes (quickness, leaping ability, etc), they make up for it by starting that move a little sooner than everyone else.
This can be improved with experience, watching film, etc, but there is also huge level of natural ability that plays into it. When players don't have it, they look slow not b/c they don't have the physical attributes, but they aren't reading things quick enough and/or are hesitant.
Hopefully, the mental aspect of Brandon's game improves as much as the physical as that will allow him to play faster not just for the sake of playing faster and with more energy but playing faster into the right play.
