Brandon Garrison.

Hey Noci, thanks for your concern. I had a mini-stroke late last fall and ended up being hospitalized for about a week. That's when I really stopped posting. Then I got completely out of the habit. But I'm doing much better, feeling more like myself, and I'm back posting more regularly. 😀
Welcome back!!

Glad you are feeling better!!

So, any update on this saga?

I know the majority seem to not care if he leaves but not sure if we are guaranteed an upgrade n portal if he does. Robert Morris guy if he ever decided anything perhaps.

Add Wilkerson or Pierre or if he goes to the portal Haggerty from Memphis

A backcourt with Lowe, Haggerty, and Oweh! Talk about bucket getters. How do you defend that? Only weakness might be that none are just dead eye shooters. But keeping those three out of the lane would be near impossible.
Idk but the real question next year will be how well WE defend. The final four games were played in the 60s and 70s. I’ve said it a 1000 times. You have to win in college in the 90s and in the 50-60s if you have to. Defense rules cbb. Our all timer on the nba was a defensive stopper in college in order to win the natty. Houston is going to be good again next year and as long as they’re or others like them are at the top cbb defense will be the path to a title. You gotta be able to score too don’t get me wrong but I think pope has shown us his teams will score. Like folks say it’s his system. Where you plug one strong player for another. If we can’t defend forget about it. Elite eight tops

Garrison makes more sense with the pieces we have. We need a guy that can play the 4 or 5, in case JQ isn’t ready to go.

If Quaintance misses some games, we at least have two guys at the 5 with BG and MM. Then Dioubate plays the 4 with Williams and Noah filling in as small ball 4’s.

If JQ is ready to go, then we got plenty of depth at the 5 (JQ, MM, BG) and plenty of depth at the 4 (BG, MD, KW, TN).

With Folgueiras, we would be counting on a 6’9, 215-ish guy at the 5 at times, if JQ isn’t ready to go.

BG just covers more bases. He better fits what we need, overall.

Garrison's shot isn't ugly he just air balls a lot of shots. He hasn't got the range dialed in yet, or I keep telling myself anyway. Otherwise he reminds me of Carr, not great at any one thing and kinda weak. He needs to see the weight room every single day.

My main hope, outside of his skill improvement, is that he gains some much needed maturity during the off season. Some of his antics hurt us last season.

I like Garrison. Rafters likes to give him the raw deal but if he was the player as a sophomore that many expected him to be he'd be in the draft right now. BG is talented and can be a great player for us. I want to keep him if we can.

Assuming for the moment that we keep Garrison, add Wilkerson, and don't take Folgueiras, what would you expect for the portal season? Another big? Another front court piece? Call it done?

I think 1 more player of some type. Wilkerson seems most likely at this point, maybe a big if we can find one..
I doubt we sign 2 additional players for next season.

Probably call it done. I would love to add another player, but if you bring in another guy, you run the risk of having too many guys wanting too many minutes to go around.

If I’m Pope, I get that wing shooter/scorer spot locked down and then look for a developmental piece in the portal or in HS. Someone who won’t need lots of PT. Someone willing to wait his turn so to speak.

But 12 is probably ideal, since you take away Perry and Noah, who will both be content as 11th and 12th men and not playing much, and you have two guys per position.

PG Lowe/Johnson
SG Portal/Chandler
SF Oweh/Williams
PF Garrison/Dioubate
C Quaintance/Moreno

You bring someone else in of significance, you start pushing guys down the pecking order and someone becomes upset and backs out.

Now if the player is way better and it’s a big upgrade, maybe you take a chance. But I think Pope will be happy with this rotation once he lands that wing shooter/scorer.

Like I said, if he uses 13, the 13th is probably a developmental piece.

I think this sounds right, but I don’t like it. What is becoming clear is that ultra deep and talented rosters at gonna be very difficult to maintain in the NIL era. And the bummer about that is that it’s gonna make every season susceptible to injury.

Also if you’re right about this, then develop the hell out of Noah this summer, because he could plausibly backup a lot of different positions on the court.

I am assuming it is just speculation going on in this thread at this point but is Garrison staying now?

I doubt anyone is beating his door down with a bigger NIL deal. I'll be surprised if someone does. I think he'll stay

Just like every year before. We’ve always had a 13 scholarship limit. We are at 11 and looking at adding 12. Can’t expect to get much with number 13 and even though you can go to 15 scholarships now, going beyond 13 is just too hard to do.

I think Max Green, if he can be convinced to come home and sit at the end of the bench with his peers Perry and Noah, would be a perfect guy to get for #13. But would he want to do that? I don’t know the kid, but he is from Kentucky. If he bleeds blue, he would probably take that chance. But going from a D1 starter to a 13th man might be too much humble pie for him. He’d be a perfect addition, though.

I think a starting SG from the portal is a long shot(yeah pun intended) unless it is Wilkerson. I am beginning to see a few more holes in this roster than I thought I would. Johnson may be the wild card in all this. I can see him coming out of the woodwork to be a factor with this team from the get go. The front court seems to have more questions than answers. It seems we are likely done in that area
