I was watching Bol Bol videos because I'm a dork and came across this. Check the shot selection of the Ball brothers, they can seemingly take any shot they want. Every pass is a no look or look away. I have turned into an old man because this bothers me so much.

You don't have to watch the whole thing to get the gist. At any point in the video you can see LiAngelo jacking up a ridiculous shot within 20 seconds of wherever you started.

That little PG for Mater Dei is pretty good.
I ain't a talent evaluater but #12 for Mater Dei looked like the best player on the court. His name is Spencer Freedman, he's a 2018 3 star who's best offer is USC and Stanford.

No, you're not getting old...I watched 20 seconds of it and saw the little brother quieting the crowd after hitting a 3 and I was done. Insufferable family.

It looked like they made a lot of shots but in reality LiAngelo was 8-33 and LaMelo was 9-32 from the field that game.

What's so weird about the Ball family is that Lonzo seems to be on a completely different page than his father or brothers. His concept of the game (beyond his crappy defense) is laudable. And though he has a little extra flash and swag, and likes to occasionally jack up a 35 footer, his team-first attitude and approach to the game is exactly what you want from a star player.

I don't get how he has the same father as the 2 younger brothers. I don't get how the same family can produce an older brother who's a pass-first, ball movement savant, then follow it with 2 younger brothers who want to shoot every time they cross the halfcourt line. It's just bizarre.

He prolly spent his whole life setting up his little brothers who definitely are shoot first, me first guys. That's my only guess.

Because Lonzo is the one with the talent to be as famous as he is. The others are famous, in large part at least, due to Lonzo, not because they're good enough to be.

There are a whole lot of really good (but not elite) players in the country who would take shots like that if they knew all their highlights would end up on instagram and TMZ and their dad somehow had the power to handpick the coach.

The entire system at Chino is geared toward inflating numbers for the Ball brothers. It's why they went home early in the playoffs.

I actually hate that Lonzo is associated with the whole mess, because he seems like a good guy and a fantastic player.

And I think Lonzo's defense is better than people give him credit for. He's not a lock down defender, but he wasn't getting much help out on the perimeter with Bryce Alford as his wingman.

Probably right.

The Chino system worked in 15-16 because of Lonzo, but that was probably the worst thing that could have happened for the rest of the family. It emboldened their worst instincts.

And I agree 100% about Lonzo. I just can't hate on anyone who passes like that and has that much basketball intelligence. I mean, he shot 55 frickin' percent from the field last season and had a 3/1 A/TO ratio. I want a guy like that on my team. TJ Leaf is a talent, he isn't shooting 61.7% on any other team in the country. And Bryce Alford's 3 point % doesn't go from 36.7 to 43 without Lonzo Ball.

He is good at jumping passing lanes, and in traps, because he's long, athletic, and has lightning quick hands. 66 steals attests to that.

He's not good at the physical aspect of D, meaning getting in a stance, moving his feet, fighting through screens, and just generally making it difficult for someone to get around him.

That's what I meant. There are certain aspects of defense that he is good at already. I think the other parts are things he can develop.

I watched various games and videos of Chino Hills HS and Lonzo was good but these two Ball brothers might as well be UCLA "walk-ons"! And please don't tell me about the youngest one scoring 92-points this year; he was playing 1960's Kansas Girls 6 on 6 style basketball!

LaMelo is just a sophomore and can still develop, LiAngelo will get in when the walkons do next year at UCLA.

Gott disagree. The 3 or 4 times I watched him. I was unimpressed with his defensive effort. JMO

I agree somewhat except it seems that "LaMelo" seems to have absorbed the most ego inflating indoctrination from Daddy Lavar with still 2-years of HS left.

IMO, It will also depend a lot on whoever the new coach is next year at Chino and how much he will accept Lavar's "guidance".

  1. They both may do just fine with the new coach at Chino
  2. Daddy may pull him out of Chino and "home school" him at the first sign of any resistance from the new coach
  3. Daddy may just abandon the motivating of LaMelo next year and just shadow Lonzo around New Jersey, Philly or wherever

We need to recruit liangelo, he's like chuck Hayes if chuck Hayes got all his talent taken by the space jam aliens
