Bobby Knight under Investigation by FBI

Last edited:
You need to work on your reading skills. Notice the past tense--ie. "was investigated", not under investigation.

This is an old story. Happened in 2015, and the investigation found nothing deemed worthy of further pursuit. Matter dropped.

But apparently the media didn't discover it until now, hence why it's being reported two years too late.

I say NOT GUILTY. Said it happened while he was visiting the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, WELL we all know Knight is not too bright so why would he be at an intelligence agency. I call bogus unless photos prove otherwise.[roll]

I've been to NGA quite a few times. Well, the DC one anyway, not the STL one.

...anyway, I bet this has something to do with the Russians.

I never thought I'd see the day when UK fans defend Bob Knight against anything. :scream:

Joking aside, this is pretty much a non-story BUT it helps disprove the giant myth that Bob Knight is a man of integrity. He probably did this stuff and was probably hammered when he did it.

"One of the women lodged a sex and race discrimination complaint with the Department of Defense."

Oh no... not a slap on the face or a "please don't do that, sir." Not this woman. She goes to the Department of Defense. I guess if Knight had done more than cop a feel, then who knows who she would have notified?? The President? :joy::joy::joy:

I think she worked there. Thus, it was protocol.

Wow I forgot all about this one...

Knight: Rape Remarks Misinterpreted

April 29, 1988|From Times Wire Services

Indiana University basketball Coach Bob Knight, who told NBC's Connie Chung, "I think that if rape is inevitable, relax and enjoy it," has said his remarks were misinterpreted.

Knight, in an interview televised Monday night, added: "That's just an old term that you're going to use. The plane's down, so you have no control over it. I'm not talking about the act of rape. Don't misinterpret me. But what I'm talking about is something happens to you, so you have to handle it--now."

In a subsequent interview with the Bloomington (Ind.) Herald-Telephone, Knight said: "Anybody who knows me would be quick to say I would be one of the last person to adopt a careless attitude about rape . . . or any form of crime.

"The word rape can be used in several ways. One is in something that has gone out of control or over which you have no control. It obviously was in that context that I was using the word, as I explained in the interview."

I wouldn't be surprised if more such stories don't start being reported about Knight.

Such boorish behavior towards women is all about control & intimidation, something Knight has become accustomed to having most of his life, and which he's steadily been losing in other areas of his life in the last decade.

The FBI Investigated Bobby Knight Over Sexual Harassment Allegations

The Washington Post reports that he touched at least four women inappropriately one day in 2015.

One year ago this month, FBI agents paid a visit to the home of Bobby Knight as a result of allegations made by multiple women that the former college coach sexually harassed them during a visit to the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency in 2015.

The revelation that the FBI investigated Knight for sexual harassment comes as a result of The Washington Post, which published a long story on the allegations on Friday, based on interviews with more than a dozen officials at the agency.

Knight visited the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, which is associated with the Department of Defense, to deliver a speech on July 10, 2015. Over the course of the day, The Washington Post says, Knight touched at least four women inappropriately ― allegedly on the shoulder, chest or buttocks.

Some of the encounters were witnessed by multiple parties, and three of the women spoke to The Washington Post about Knight’s behavior that day.

The situation eventually led to a criminal investigation by both the U.S. Army and FBI, culminating in FBI officials visiting Knight’s Montana home. But Knight denied the allegations and the case was eventually dismissed without charges ever being filed.

When we reached out, the FBI referred HuffPost to the Eastern District of Virginia, which did not immediately respond for a request for comment. Knight’s wife, Karen, and lawyer, James Voyles, denied the charges when reached by The Washignton Post, while Knight did not respond to a request for comment.

The infamous former Indiana University coach faced repeated controversy over the course of his career, including multiple allegations that he physically attacked, abused and intimidated people he worked around. He has admitted to a temper problem

Lets examine this a bit.

Former Indiana men's basketball coach Bob Knight was the subject of an FBI investigation following allegations that he inappropriately touched four women during a 2015 visit to the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, according to a report.

The Washington Post reports that Knight was accused of making suggestive comments, hugging a woman tightly around the chest and hitting another on the buttocks.

Okay. So the government agency responsible for video and photo evidence around the globe apparently does not have any cameras in their own building to tell whether a VISITOR to their facility does something while in the building. Seriously?

My guess is that BK offended some snowflake military females who do not like men...and in Obama's military its hard to know if they were women or some version of one in transition. I am no BK fan but this cries of fake news and something that would spin out of a social justice warrior military rather than one that was assembled to protect and to defend the USA.

And why do we need 17 spy agencies that cannot spy on anything but our own people apparently.

All that, or Occam's Razor.

Sigh. Imagine being so consumed with partisan politics you side against the truth and side with Bobby Knight.

Against truth? I think that by any objective reading of the facts...they indicate that the authorities investigated and found no evidence of wrongdoing. So who is consumed and by what? It seems BK hatred has consumed you.

Frankly I'd expect Vitale to grope his idol Knight before Knight could even get a woman that close to him to try to grope her.
Dick Vitale's General, Robert Montgormery Knight needs to be busted down to buck private.

Or better yet he's earned himself a dishonorable discharge.

There's a huge difference between 'finding no evidence of wrongdoing' and 'declining to press charges'.

Remember this is the FBI we're talking about. They have much more important matters to investigate and prosecute rather than a petty crime like Knight was accused of. I'm frankly surprised they even took the time to investigate, because as I said they have better things to do with their resources. (like investigating whether UK fans threatened John Higgins /sarcasm).

Even with evidence they have to decide whether it's sufficient and worthwhile to formally prosecute Knight over it. I don't see the FBI's decision not to proceed as anything but expected.

Having said that, there's no real evidence that Knight DIDN'T do what he has been accused of. Remember, it's not just the women involved, there were multiple other witnesses as well.

I personally tend to believe the women. Knight has always been a bully his entire adult life, and that's indisputable. It's not hard to see that bad behavior morph into him being a letch as well.

BTW, your whole argument about lack of video is nonsense. When people enter secure areas they've gone through security checks and all the employees have been vetted etc. One major reason for having a secure perimeter in the first place is so that they don't need to invest in a lot of additional surveillance inside the areas.

It was Vitale who promoted him as "The General", when the reality is that Knight has actually always only been a Private First Class.

I'm in the security business...including video surveillance and intrusion monitoring. You don't speak from a position of authority if you believe what you wrote.

This is the correct reading of information in the WP article. Disliking the messenger is not reason to disregard victim and witness statements. Knight is a repeat offender and, for what it is worth, a lousy basketball analysis.

Duke Lacross is shaking their heads right now. I'd add that so are countless other males around the country who have been wrongly charged with similar things.

Males, on this planet, at least, have gotten away with abusing females since before they, the males, began walking upright. Defending people who use powerful positions to abuse by citing a few lacross players does not change historical fact. Thank goodnees, Knight may now be relegated to historical fact.
