This ranking of basketball programs based on their overall histories was done by Sagarin for ESPN in 2009 -- just before the Calipari era began. Despite a lackluster few years, Kentucky was still easily the top program of all time.

Since then, in all the categories weighed, I have no doubt Kentucky has greatly increased its lead over the 2nd, 3rd and 4th programs. In the six seasons since this ranking Kentucky has been to the Elite Eight five times, the Final Four four times, the Final game twice and won a championship. The Cats have more wins in that period than any other program, and have several SEC regular season and tourney championships.

I think someone loves them some Big 10 if they think Illinois is a top 6 all-time program. Wow!
And Northwestern has never been in the NCAA Tournament and they came in at 77 on that list out of over 300 D1 schools. Unreal.

Btw Gary Parrish doesn't have us in his all time top 25.;)

Ah yes, the infamous Sagarin list that produced weeping and gnashing of teeth and tears in Louisville. The thing about that list is it just highlights a central question: how much does the regular season matter? Louisville has a proud history, but it's all in March. Only has been ranked #1 in the AP poll 2 times. Never a 1 seed in the tournament until 2009. If you list the winningest programs by decade since the 1930s, Louisville only appears in 2 decades, that kind of thing. So, mediocre (for that level) regular season history - but then 10 final fours and 3 titles. Sagarin takes it all into account, not just the last 3 weeks of each year, and that's why some of that list doesn't seem to jive with history...
