Blake Barnett feels good about Harris to Bama

Interesting read on Alabama commit Blake Barnett and trying to sway Damien Harris to Bama. If Harris' Twitter is any indication he seems Bama bound. I felt pretty certain about UK landing him until these past couple of weeks where he seems to be talking about Alabama non-stop, but who really knows at this point

That could be it..I know these guys love the attention..I'm still holding out hope for UK
 
This is going to get hyped up for as long as he's down there with a bunch of Bama commits. When he gets back home, he's going to hear from mostly everybody about how he should go to UK. Nobody knows where he is going at this point, I guess we'll see in a week. Fingers crossed that he stays home.

Mark Stoops is no longer at UK? Hmmm

Mark Stoops has taken over this recruitment last year and is solely primary recruiter. Mark and him have a great relationship and he has been point man on this. N. Brown leaving had no affect at all. If Mark Stoops left than I would be worried.
 
Chad Scott has been recruiting him as the de facto lead recruiter for some time, from my understanding.

Also, in one of his recent (as in the past 5 days) he said that he is getting a lot of pressure from friends, teachers, coaches, etc. to stay in Kentucky and then asked why he is waiting until after the AA game to announce, he said that he wants to allow his friends, teachers, coaches, etc to get back from Christmas break so they can all watch his announcement.

Seems weird to want all of the people in your life, who are pushing you in a certain direction, to watch you announce for another school.

Could be nothing, but usually kids don't announce they are leaving the state in front of a large group of supporters. I also think all this Bama talk is coming exclusively from the fact that he is surrounded by Bama people right now. What would you expect him to be tweeting and talking about?

His choosing UK would be a program changer, even more so than Elam. While I want him to stay home, I wouldn't fault him for choosing Bama. I'm hoping the stories about how much his mom dislikes Saban are true, but you never know.
 
^Brown was his lead recruiter. Saw a thing a few days ago on another site where Eliot has taken the lead on in-state prospects. HCs are seldom lead recruiters for guys. Not saying Stoops isn't involved just that others are taking the lead.

Hmmm, Bama writer thinks he'll go to Bama, UK writers think he'll go to UK.
Ever stop and think he might be taking about Bama because there have been things to talk about?

Methinks people try to find things about which to worry. Having raised 4 kids past their teenage years I learned long ago not to attempt predicting what they will do.

BTW...just went back and checked his last week of twitter activity...most of it is retweeting of his mentions and there are UK and Bama based tweets among those. Others are about his activities at the all-star game. He made comments about the game last night just like he was making comments about the UK/UL basketball game a few days ago. IMHO trying to predict his decision based upon his twitter activity is like trying to predict the roll of a dice based upon the previous rolls.

I can assure you Mark Stoops is the lead recruiter on this kid. Scott has been there all along but this is a Mark Stoops recruitment. John Schlarman has taken over primary duties of Kentucky, he also handles a lot in Tn-Cincy area. John has taken over KY as primary recruiter after Brown left. Eliot will be involved in guys they have relationships with etc.

No one is taking the lead on Harris's recruitment. Stoops has been his lead recruiter for 2 years....fact.

Stoops is Harris' lead recruiter and Schlarman took over recruiting of Kentucky.

No kidding. the recruitment is reminding me so much of what we went through with Elam 12 months ago it isn't funny.

wouldnt surprise me the least if this weekend Harris announces he is putting off his decision date of Jan 9th a few more weeks. Just like Elam did after being at an allstar game for a week. At the time everyone FREAKED OUT, 'insiders' saying that if Elam had decided right then it would have been UK...but now he is having 2nd thoughts so Bama is now in the lead.

Harris will pick UK, Stoops has gotten it done yet again with a stud instate recruit. Had mountains to climb to get Hatcher, Barker, Elam to seriously consider UK much less chose them. And he did it! He will do it again with Damien.
 
Regarding his "lead" recruiter, in most cases UK is recruiting out of state recruits and I think they are limited in how many visits they can take, maybe by the recruiting rules but definitely by the time requirements when you are traveling out of state. With Damien living next door and being on campus so much that isn't nearly as big an issue, seems to have a great relationship with our best closer and probably recruiter also, Stoops.

He's not the "lead", but it's not like it matters anyway. Stoops has made more than enough contact with Harris, he's been to his home to to talk to Harris himself, Harris has been on campus and had the opportunity to speak to Stoops. He knows what Stoops is about, and what his goals are, and he knows how much Stoops wants him in this program. It's not something that would need to be reiterated on a daily basis, but while Harris is home, especially for the next week, it will be reiterated by Harris' friends, other UK recruits especially, and possibly even family.

The reason why? Because this is a very rare situation for UK. Not very often we have the no. 1 rb in America right here at home. Stoops has been the lead on this guy from day one. Everything that has been done by others recruiting Harris, such as brown, Scott,etc. has had Stoops' stamp on it. The HC is almost never the lead recruiter for any recruit, due to the limitations you mentioned. But this one is different....Stoops is the reason mama loves UK, not anyone else on our coaching staff have, nor could have made the inroads with Harris like Stoops!

If Harris chooses Alabama it won't be because Brown is no longer at UK.
 
I think DH likes both places. Maybe for different reasons. I'm not so sure that Momma fell for the "business decision" angle. I have nothing to base that on other than from reading around the Web. I think he's a Cat.... Although it's much closer call now than it was in September or October.

Last night when Bama was on the comeback, he tweeted "they're still in this". As opposed to his tweets about UK using "we". Tifwiw but imo those are subconscious clues.

I tend to agree with you. However, Lamar Dawson did just that, in front of a packed house at Boyle Co. High School a few years ago. Even Jacob Tamme showed up, in anticipation of him signing with the Cats. The recent push by Bama for his services, has me worried. Very worried. We were fortunate to beat them out for Elam. I have my doubts we can do that twice. Besides, I think they want Harris more than they wanted Elam. I have no inside sources, no recruiting contacts. Just a very bad feeling in the pit of my stomach.
 
Yeah, I wonder what ever happened to old whatsamaycallem, haven't followed him since that letdown. I don't think he will ever be a hero in Kentucky, certainly not to me.

He looked pretty excited when Sheffield committed to bama at the Underarmour game.
 
Saw that. Getting less confident every day. Hopefully we hear some positive buzz because it seems like Bama has momentum now.
 
I wonder what color his underwear was today at the game? If we only knew, we'd know where he is going to commit. I think that every time that he says, tweets, repeats anything then people think that's where he's leaning. He's allowed to like other players going to other schools and he's allowed to be happy for other guys. That doesn't mean he's not going to UK.. The reality is nobody on this board has a clue. Everybody is hanging onto his every breath. He's a teenager that's having fun and enjoying the process and everything that goes with it, hopefully. This is all too typical of message board chatter.

Entirely possible he just wanted to have some fun running with the pack this week. Think of it as his wild bachelor party. If one of my sons were in his shoes, I'd encourage him to do the same before coming home and "getting hitched". It beats being relatively isolated this week, and on top of that, were I Mark Stoops, I'd want the hype. The kids is pretty damn bright. Some of you might need to consider the possibility he is playing those Bama recruits, and Bama, for the hype.

Of course they like their chances. They're Bammers. They like their chances of getting just about anything they want, at any time, where football is concerned... kind of like our spoiled basketball fans. Both are more often disappointed than they care to admit.
