If they're smart and willing to raise the money to buy out Crean, then now would be a great time to go after him given his apparent discontent in Gainesville. But I really doubt the Hoosiers are smart enough to make this move...I see them holding onto the laughingstock of a coach they have...

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

That would be a terrible move. I would hate to see IU with a competent coach. Tom Crean is perfect for that school and should stay there forever!

Donovan would never leave FL for IU. He would not leave FL for UK. The guy is stubborn and loyal.

Because its not Kentucky. His daddy CRP dont want him at Ky. But Indiana would be OK.

Billy Donovan had Rick Pitino in his ear lobbying him HARD not to take the UK job. You had Dickie V proclaiming he could build his own "dynasty" at UF -- and he apparently believed it. Now, he sees that basketball will ALWAYS play second fiddle to basketball at Florida...it would be a wise move for both -- I'm not saying either is smart enough to make the move...they probably aren't...

Great move for Indiana, not so sure Donovan would be too keen on it.

This would make no sense, whatsoever. Why would he even consider this job? He has won two championships at fla and went to a final four just last yr...how is IU a step up or provide any benefit?

That so funny Donovan leaving Fla, he turn down the pro s a few yrs ago and has had great success at Fla. , do not thank he will ever leave Fla. over one bad yr.

I had not heard of indications of Donovan's "apparent discontent in Gainesville." What have you heard or read that supports that proposition?

Some of his comments about his team in the press this year give me that impression. He has been uncharacteristically critical of his team. He also made some comments about how Kentucky is the gold standard in the SEC, and basically inferred that the UF program (including lack of fan support and other shortcomings that are well known) cannot live up to that...

No, I'm not joking. I'm not saying this will happen, I'm just saying it would be a smart move for both IU and Donovan. If the push to get rid of Crean gains any momentum, Donovan would certainly be the obvious choice for them...

If Donovan leaves I think it's far more likely that he ends up in the NBA. He is definitely one of the best coaches in the college game, and I think his demeanor and style would translate well to the NBA.

I don't see it happening either.
Me neither. But, that was then... this is now. If he'd leave UF, when he had a great run and was very close to #3 last year, who the heck knows?

Yeah he has a bad team, it happens. Doesn't mean he's ready to leave gainsville. He just went the final four a yr ago. I would be pissed if I had the current team he has...have you watched them. Cal wasn't happy with our 2013 team, didn't mean he was ready to leave

He can't be thrilled about the postponement of the O-dome renovation. Not sure he'd consider IU though. Would be a bad move IMO.

Not saying that this isn't possible, but I would say it is more likely that if Donovan wants to leave for another college program he would simply wait for Cal to leave UK and then show interest to your AD. There is literally nothing that would draw Donovan to Indiana, IMO.

There has been some talk that he is extremely interested, (again) in going to the NBA, and that it could happen as soon as this season. That is the only way he leaves UF, if you ask me.

As for the O'Dome renovations, yes they were delayed. However, they are putting in another $10 million into the project now, so the scope has increased. Supposedly Donovan has no issue with this, as it was already a very aggressive timeline and with so many different sports using the facility, there were chances that the AD didn't want to take in regards to event scheduling. It has been moved to March 2016.

If IU moves on from Crean this yr it will be for a young up and coming coach IMO. Think that's the only way they can afford a new coach and Creans buyout at the same time. No wa the can pony up $10 mil for Crean then turn around and offer another $4-5 a yr to Donavan. Cause that's about what it would take to get him there. He sure as hell wouldn't take a pay cut to leave Gainesville.

I hope he goes to the NBA... gets some experience and connections there... and when Cal retires several years from now, THEN Donovan can take over at UK.

Donovan to IU sounds silly. Coach's graveyard since Knight. If he doesn't return to Florida I see him in the pros.

IMHO Donovan is UL's next coach. Pitino steps aside after this season.

Gator 300 answered but to expand..the upgrade was delayed as the plans were only 60% complete, and construction was to start in about two weeks, once gymnastics is over. Added to incomplete plans, was a further potential snafu, as UF has a brand new construction management team, and they are still getting brought up to speed.
It was only prudent and good business to not start until plans and the construction management team are ready.
I have heard nothing from Donovan complaining about this...nor have my bull gator friends who are connected with Foley the AD.

I hope if Florida does the renovations that moving the basket supports back and making more room around the court for the players is of the highest priority.

KYFan606 - If you look at the renderings there is added room all around the court. I am sure what you are talking about is being addressed as well.

I don't see him leaving for IU, but I also don't see UK court him again. He had his chance for the keys to the Ferrari, and he passed. I don't think he gets another chance.

I just don't see Donovan at IU. They have fallen to far. He has it better at Fla. Louisville? Maybe but why would you want to be second fiddle on your own state. What about North Carolina or Duke. How long do Roy or K have left. You talking about a pain in UKs rear. Donovan at either one of those schools would be tough on everybody.
