Coming up to Lex Thursday for the game, staying Friday for Madness and Saturday for Keeneland. Give me your best grub spots, people! Breakfast, lunch, and dinner suggestions all appreciated.

P.S. Places with good craft beer selections are also welcomed :)

If you haven't been downtown since last basketball season, Tony's and Pies & Pints have been solid additions.

To me, its still an underwhelming food scene. Best bet is country boys tap room, and hoping they have the gastro gnomes food truck that night.

Are you staying downtown? If so, all the spots are fun for Thursday night live, in the Main/Short/Broadway blocks.

Merrick Inn best in town, but will need to call regarding reservation.

Joe Balogna's on Maxwell a Lexington tradition.

Billy's BBQ in Chevy Chase always a good bet.

Good luck & have a blast!

Windy Corner for breakfast and Meadowthorpe Cafe for lunch. Not convenient and you have to drive, though.

I haven't been in awhile and one site says Meadowthorpe Cafe has closed. Too bad if true because I think they had the best burger in Lexington.

This. If you can afford Tony's, you should go to Tony's. If you can get a table at Pies & Pints, you should go to Pies & Pints. :)

They are still open they have just re-branded themselves as Bad Wolf Burgers. Terrible name but the same great product.

That is a terrible name. I got to get back out to Lexington and try them again to see if the food is still as good.

I 2nd Joe Bologna's...Great Atmosphere and Great Food. But it is closer to campus than to rupp I believe.

And if you love Wings, then you'll want Wing Zone....that was a favorite of mine in college.

Wing Zone ran by pizza hut? Im not sure about that. I believe it was started by a college student in Florida.... I believe Murfreesboro has a Wing Zone...

pizza hut's is called wing street. I usually go to Joe B before Madness. Also last time I was there a buddy took me to Country Boy Brewing and it was awesome.

Wing Street, that's it.

Sounds like I'll more than likely be at Joe B.'s and Country Boy prior to the game! Is it hard to get a seat at Joe B's?

My vote is pies and pints.. Get there early though. Great beer selection, good pizza, also a large selection on pizza. I reiterate, get there early, park, walk to p&p then walk to rupp. Hope you guys have fun. Wish I could make it.

I'll kick myself for revealing this, but the best new place in Lexington is Bradford BBQ around a couple of miles south of downtown in Zandale Center. Just go south on Limestone. Easy peasy.

Go early. It's tiny and they've run out of brisket on game days.

You can't give stuff like that up, Moe. Some things a man needs to keep for himself. Give them the 1b, 1c, and 1d... but never the 1a. They'd have been perfectly happy with their City BBQ then moved obliviously on along their way. Now look what you've done.

1st rule of the Barbecue Club. Never talk about the Barbecue Club.

Bad Wold burgers looks like s great place. They took their name from Dr Who. Me and my gal are getting married soon and having a Dr Who themed wedding. We are heading to Lex this weekend and will def have to check this place out.

If you don't mind spending the coin, Tony's and Cole's 735 Main are terrific. I personally think they're the best steaks in Lexington. Both are pricey though, however, you get what you pay for. Excellent food from top to bottom.

If you want something more casual, these places have been consistently good for me:
Local Taco
Joe Bologna's
Pazzo's
Saul Good
Pies and Pints
JDI Tavern

And I'm going to agree with those who said before me on Country Boy Brewing. A very neat place with good beer and atmosphere. The last time I was there, the food truck was fantastic. You've got a lot of choices my friend, Lexington has great food.

We're going to pies and pints. We have been going to pazzos for the last 5 years for the blue and white game. We're going to try a different pizza this year. I'm not sold on pies and pints beer list though. But since we'll be going to CBB before the game I'll be okay.

If you want a brew pub atmosphere, you can't beat W. Sixth. Straight up Jefferson to 6th. (Jefferson starts at the west side of Rupp Arena on the north.) There are usually food trucks for other kinds of food, but the fish on-site is always great. (It's in the family of restaurants that includes Windy Corners, Holly Hill, Wallace Station, and a couple of others(?). Ouita Mitchell is the restaurateur.) I'm not a connoisseur of beer but I've never tried one of West Sixth's efforts that wasn't at least interesting. And their Amber is one of my wife's favorites. I think West Sixth deserves credit for producing world class brew.

I agree...West 6th makes awesome beer. Heller Heaven is my fave. I was trying to make the easy walking distance from Rupp suggestions. But you're right. If you like craft beer West 6th is a really good one.

I saw local taco suggested - also a really good spot. Not a fan of Pazzos. And I have no idea why Joe Bologna's is so popular - I think its extremely overrated.

Noah Cross in Chinatown, "Course I'm respectable. I'm old. Politicians, ugly buildings, and whores all get respectable if they last long enough."

Joe Bologna's is old. It was around when I was young, and it's an old fashioned spaghetti joint like you could have found most places in the country in the 50s. (Nothing in Bologna's fits in with the Chinatown quote except its age. I just love the movie and the quote.) You know what your order will taste like at Joe Bologna's. Which is important in a restaurant.

Maybe it's because I've only eaten at a handful of quick eats combined with my love for all play on words but I really liked Hugh Jass Burgers

In this wonderful thread regarding restaurants, though I would let any potential restaurant professionals know I'm recruiting for talent in the full service field in the Lexington market. Interested and have experience, let me know.
