Best Jemarl Baker clip i've watched yet....fully showcases shooting skills

He reminds me a bit of Doron Lamb, has a very pure stroke and a quick release. What is it people say? You can't have too many shooters. With the team of athletes he will have surrounding him, all he would have to do is spot up and shoot all night. Just keep those defenses honest and don't just let them pack it in the whole game. And he's a likely multi-year player, which is nice.

I just hope the kid is realistic about his expectations and doesn't transfer out if he's not quite that upper level as a freshman.

Was just gonna troll and say hope he doesn't transfer. Such a nice shot and can make space against longer defenders.

Although I doubt he sees many minutes this year, I could see him becoming a Mulder type of player as a SO with 2 more years eligibility.

Could be one hell of a player.

I'm saying the comparison to Mulder because on any other team last year he would've probably started and scored bucket loads.

He was a NICE player off the bench last season stuck behind Monk who is off to be a OAD lottery pick. Tough spot to be in for him.

All in my completely worthless opinion as always.

I really liked mulder as well. We seemed to play well at least when he was. I am not expert as I never played basketball because I suck but he must struggle in areas that werw important to Cal because he looked a lot better than guys who got his type of minutes in two years.

As a JR he couldn't adapt to the pace of the college game. As a SR, with Monk and Fox playing every minute possible plus a SR leader like Hawkins, there just weren't enough minutes to go around.

I have no doubt that Mulder would've been a spectacular player on any team where he wasn't sitting behing 2 OAD lottery guards.

I don't think you can RS JUCO players, but my goodness Mulder would be a HUGE asset to this year's team to say the least. Sadly, he didn't get his turn.

All in my completely worthless opinion as always.

If he gets minutes he could really be a weapon for us. Can he defend? Does he play with energy? That's what he needs to get on the floor. If the answer to those questions is yes then he can be a star. If the answer is no then we probably have another Stacey Poole on our hands.

Baker is not Stacey Poole. Baker is skilled and motivated. Few if any players (outside of Isaiah Briscoe) come out of high school as strong defenders. Those skills are developed by great college coaches like John Calipari. Baker has the athletic tools to become a solid college guard on both ends of the court. Diallo's return probably means Baker will be our 4th guard next year, since Diallo, Green, SGA are elite players. But Baker is going to play, and I think he will surprise a lot of people. But let's face it, UK is a high competition program where players have to earn roles. Roles aren't guaranteed in the scholarship papers.

Yeah, but can he athlete? You can never have to many athleters.
I think we sometimes get too caught up in athletism and don't have enough players with basketball skills .. like shooting... and a strong basketball IQ.

Baker is going to do fine and earlier than people think. He kinda got caught up in the rankings game. He signed like the first of his JR year at cal as a 6ft shooting guard. He shot up 3 to 4 inches this past season and last summer at Under Armor he played out of position at PG due to an injury to the pg on his team. I think he is undersized for an NBA 2 doesn't have the handle for NBA pg. Still think had he of been unsigned not playing out west when he grew. He would of been ranked in the 30s right outside of 5star where Booker was most of his senior year. The kid plays up to the competition as well played well against other top players like Duval

The biggest thing that stood out to me in that clip is that he doesn't have to be open to get his shot off and make it. He seemingly can shoot very well even when defended closely. That's a huge plus.

Can he rebound? Defend? Is he a good driver? Can he finish? Does he create for others?
Check out the thread called Jabarl Baker just below this one had a whole game of baker playing vs Duval the best pg in the class. He was playing out of position at PG and plays a pretty good over all floor game vs solid competition

The handle will have to improve, as will his strength, but he's clearly a smart player with a really good feel for where his offense comes from. Right now he kinda reminds me of Matt Jones from Duke.

Does he remind anyone of John Stark? And please no "he's nowhere near as good as Stark" comments. Not saying that. Just the way he moves and shoots.

I agree. There is something about the his actions, and the way he moves and looks that also reminds me of John Stark.

Now, if we can get him to play like Stark while in a UK uniform we've really got something going.

Same here on the Lamb comparison...only hes a bit quicker getting his shot off.

Will Cal give him the chance is the question..Will Cal be so intent on getting others to the NBA he lets Baker sit? We shall see.

Well he handled the ball well enough to drop 34 on Duval in AAU. Strength and ball handling is fine for playing 2 guard. He shoots better now then Jones even after 3 years of development under K. Wow Jones barely shot 30percent from 3 as a jr. If the kid defends like Jones and shoots like he does now. He will be a hell of a player

Lets just hope he can do it vs Duke, UNC, UCLA, in front of 40000 when it counts.

Wouldn't get carried away with AAU games. You're acting like I think Baker is one kind of bum, I don't. I think he's clearly a guy that will have to run off screens for a lot of college. Not much elevation on his shot and he's not a wiz with the ball to open up looks off the dribble, but he can shoot. Also pretty much *every* kid needs to get stronger coming into college.

Saying he's better now than Matt Jones after three years at Duke -- maybe a stretch?

Didn't say he was better. I said he shoots it better now. I said if he shoots it like he does now and can play defense like Jones he would be a hell of a player. Now my surprise was seeing a kid regress that much in shooting as Jones did. Oh so according to your logic. We shouldn't judge what a kid can do based on his prior play. There are the recruiting coordinators who say Baker is the best shooter in the class or our coaches who recruited him for that purpose. So you guys shouldn't assume that Carter is 6ft10 according to a AAU roster. He is about a 6f8 5 who thinks he is a stretch 4 who pouts when things don't go his way. My favorite part of the Hoop Summit was team USA going plus 15 with Vanderbilt on the floor when they took Carter out.

If his defense is just decent at the college level he will see 10 minutes a game as a freshman. Cats lost a ton of scoring and I think Cal will play him especially if we are struggling on offense.
