Its pretty much consensus that Ulis, Briscoe, Murray, Poythress, and Labissiere will start.

So my question is what do you think the most competitive scrimmage line up would be if you mixed and matched the starters in with the subs?

Here's my teams (note that this is without Wynyard):

Team 1
G Ulis
G Briscoe
G Mulder
F Willis
F Labissiere

Team 2
G Hawkins
G Murray
G Matthews
F Poythress
F Lee

Team 1 is the better offensive unit, IMHO.

Team 2 is the better defensive unit, IMHO.

But, if Poythress is 100% and playing at the level he was at in the Bahamas, he forms a deadly offensive duo with Murray.

To me, that's the most competitive five on five on paper.

What's yours? How would you balance the teams?

The five returnees against the five newcomers. The upper classmen will see more mins
at the start of the year, until till the freshman get their feet wet.

Yeah, i would like to see upper class versus freshman (Assuming Poythress is healthy)

The problem with new guys against old guys is that it puts Poythress against either Mulder or Matthews. He's going to be mostly playing the 4 this year so that may not give him the best semblance of what he'll be seeing in game. Problem is, if Lee goes against Skal, the only person over 6'5" for Poy to face is Willis and he will manhandle him. Could be good for Willis' development though.

Then comes Wynyard, that'll be good practice addition.

But what you said would be problem with any line up..so it has nothing to do with old versus new, or any combination of lineup.

Returnees vs. Newcomers sounds interesting.

G Ulis
G Hawkins
F Willis
F Poythress
F Lee

G Murray
G Briscoe
G Mulder
G Matthews
F Labissiere

I think the newcomers, in a four guard formation with Labissiere inside, would be a potent offensive unit.

The returnees would be a tough defense to score on.

Nice matchup.

If you don't think Skal, Murray and Briscoe are going to get big minutes from day 1...idk what to tell you. The main reason they will is because They are the best players on the team talent wise, and Skal has to play by default due to no depth in the front court, and Murray/Briscoe are competing with a bunch of other newcomers for the starting 2/3 spots in Mulder and Matthews. I'll take the talent to win out on the minutes played over the one experienced guy in Hawkins at the 2. We all know Ulis is starting at the 1.

i see Lee having a much bigger role than many. His defense and his experience plus his size and jumping ability will put him in the line up to start the season.

I think he will get 20-25 minutes per game all season. It might be higher if he can stay out of foul trouble in his increased role.

I don't see him starting, though, unless Poythress is not 100%.

He'll be our Sixth Man.

I think Lee ends up being SEC Sixth Man of the Year.

He won't be a big scorer, but will rebound, play defense, and bring energy off the bench.
