Ben Simmons March Sadness

When you chose to play for Johnny jones vs other programs, you get what you deserve & please shoot a shot outside of 10 ft & I'll truly believe the hype.

LSU is on outside looking in today. They better get it together. Jones vs Avery Johnson was a classic mismatch.

Simmons getting home games after SEC tourney or not?
I really hate when people talk about brackets without actually looking at them. LSU would be in for sure if the tourney started today ( as would 4 other SEC teams and probably bama) but they don't have much room for error . they need to win everyone of their last 5 games minus UK basically to feel comfortable on Selection sunday. If you look at this mornings bracketology UK is 4 , A&M is a 6 , UF is a 7 , USC is a 8 , LSU a 11 and Bama a 12 . VAndy is the 2nd team out of the dance. SO basically LSU , Vandy and Bama are fighting for 2 spots and there is no way the committee will put 7 SEC teams in .

I don't understand if you are a top 15 or so guy why you would go to a non elite school that has a terrible coach. Look at the guy at Miss. St and guys at Cal. They would have been OAD at most big schools and got to play in the tournament. Now they are coming back and their NBA careers are in question. Simmons is such a big talent that he will still go #1 but will never play in NCAA.

Bracket matrix has them out...so.

When you watch their games, it's the Ben Simmons show from start to finish.. special graphics, next LeBron etc. You wouldn't know LSU had another player on the team. Routine layups are shown on a loop. I'm not saying he isn't a special talent, but dayum, come on now. LSU isn't the Unversity of Ben Simmons.

I don't think Simmons is over-hyped at all. He is the real deal. When you plug NBA players in at Simmons' fingertips he is going to be unreal at the next level. What is stupid is the talk that Duke's Jefferson should be taken #1 over him.

I've heard ESPN say he's the next Lebron James and the next Magic Johnson all season. yeah.... I'd say they are over hyping him ......

The kid obviously has tremendous talent.

My big question is... "Has he improved his game at all while at LSU?"

I doubt he cared that much about making the tournament. It never mattered where he went to school. The only reason guys like him even go to college is because they don't want to sit out for the year or take an extra year of high school.

YOU draft Simmons #1 because he is an elite rebounder. The real deal when it comes to rebounding. Nobody else has rebounded like him since J Randle. Rebounding is the ONE stat that 95% of the time translates to the NBA. If you draft Simmons you fixed your rebounding if that was your weakness. 95% for sure.

Moral of the story: Possess one basketball skill that's elite at all levels and you will be the #1 pick.

Simmons is a slightly bigger J Randle with a worse jumper, identical around the basket skills, and way better passing ability. Defensive abilities are underwhelming for both players.
Simmons has the higher ceiling over Randle though.

Any player who is 6'10" and 240 that can handle the ball like him is going to be a star in the NBA.

I take IngrAm if I have to choose. He is very similar to Kevin Durant. Wow I wish we could have gotten him.

A jumper is about the only thing he needs. To be fair if you want to win games, forcing him to take threes is probably a dumb thing to do.

His willingness and effectiveness at playing the role of a more traditional big guy helps that as well.

What?

If he lacks a jumper why is it dumb to force him to shoot threes?

Are you talking opponents or his own coach?

I missed something...

As a Laker fan, I hope we pick second and get Ingram.

Simmons is great and deserving of the number 1 pick, but I don't believe he fits beside Randle at all.

If the Lakers draft Simmons, I think they will have to move Randle on the cheap.

Making a non-shooter shoot a lot of threes is not a smart thing to do if you are trying to win a game. I'm sure they are practicing them, just like I am sure Briscoe is, but I'm also confident that they intentionally limit the amount of shots he takes outside of the paint.

I understand you are a Kentucky fan, but don't you think a bad team picking based on fit is the wrong thing to do? You take the best player and figure it out later. Simmons will hopefully be able to play either forward spot. Even if it doesn't work, you take the weaker of the two and get something for them that is a better fit.

Wow...when you look at LSU's remaining schedule, they have their work cut out for them.

10 losses and only one seemingly sure-fire cupcake left on the schedule...13-15 losses look
like a good bet right now.

Johnny's really outdone himself this time.

The problem is that you can't just put the players in a trade machine and get what you want.

My feeling is that Ingram may be 90% as valuable as Simmons.

I also know that Randle becomes less valuable in trades if your trading partner knows you have to move him because of fit.

So let's say you only get 70% value back in trade for Randle. Would you rather have Randle + .9Simmons, or .7Randle + Simmons?

I understand that BPA is the prevailing wisdom. I've also watched the Sixers get crushed with that strategy for a while now.

A lot of this is predicated on my belief that Ingram is reasonably close to Simmons as a talent. If I thought that Simmons was a Lebron level asset, I might feel differently.

Kind of like the same thing LSU had when Pete played there....only TV and media overall are not even the same today.
Can you imagine the hype with ESPN, etc. if Pete was playing today with his scoring, passing, and dribbling skills?

I'm as happy for him missing the tournament,as he was beating UK. He can say."We beat UK one time",as we go far in the big tournament.

I'd like to see LSU in the Dance; on the other hand, I want to see us crush them senior day.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Just think if Jerry Tiptons cousin was in Baton Rouge he could ask the other players how it felt to be a sidenote to Simmons....they would find that mans remains in the bayou if the alligators didn't get him and they might not like the taste. but I do believe if LSU doesn't totally flop they will want Simmons and LSU in the tourney he has been major storyline all season.

I think there is wide gap between the talent and potential of Ben Simmons vs Ingram. Personally, if I was in charge of a team I wouldn't trade Simmons for two Ingrams.
