Basketball vs. Football

I’m only old enough to have seen 3 basketball championships. That being said, would y’all trade a couple of our last 3 recent basketball championships for a recent football championship?

Nope don't want to trade anything. Been here for both sports for a bit over 60 years. I have a great appreciation for where our football team is now. I never thought we could get to this point and I hope to be around long enough to see the football team take the next step(whatever that may be) and to see the basketball team win another title or two(and retake the all time win list from KU.

No but I would trade 1.

I guess I should have said, “would you trade one for a football championship.” Balance out the prestige of the sports. I think Kentucky is the only school we can have this hypothetical. We play in the best football conference as a basketball powerhouse, so validity in football is huge for us. Duke or UNC fans would never consider this since they’re in a “basketball conference.”

I do think the statement was made without an attempt to disparage the football program, but it did disparage the football program. We can't afford to have our coaches in a battle. I think most fans are like me and cheer for everything UK. We have some UK basketball/Alabama football fans, but they are fake. They just cheer for the team they think has the best chance to win a National Championship. Surely they will publicly make up in the next day or so, but we can't afford to have a fight between the programs and have either of them leave, because I think we have the best combo coaches in the country.

Not the 90's NCAA CBB championships because the players were multi-year UK players....true Blue through and through.

However, I would trade 100% of the OAD BB "success" including our most recent NC, the 2015 win streak, NBA draft picks, etc for a single outright, undisputed D1A FBS/BCS/CFP championship. Why, I don't identify with OAD BB teams as it is player (& NBA prospects)-first.....program/school/state-second. With FB, there is no question that the loyalty is focused upon wins, losses, program success and by extension the fans, state, school and so on.

Personally, I would pitch Cal and his entire legacy over the side.

Cal can say all he wants but, the past few years, football > basketball. Historically, not even close, of course. But, the FB team has had as much or more success than the BB team recently. And, revenue-wise, FB >> BB although BB does turn a profit unlike many other schools. Cal's statements did the FB team no favors and will be used against Stoops in recruiting. Supremely dumb comments by Cal and he should be smarter than that. Perhaps he's feeling some pressure or donors aren't quite as enthused about recent results as they are about football and he's panicking. Regardless, he could (and should) have said, "We want the best facilities in the nation like our football team enjoys. We have a lot of history to live up to and even more to create and better facilities will have ensure that it happens. Both Coach Stoops and I have very high expectations of maintaining the high quality teams, players and traditions that UK deserves. We want to have every tool possible to continue producing great teams that our fans loyally support and cheer on season after season." No reason whatsoever to pit BB vs FB except for Cal's ego or just a boneheaded mistake.

Triple C is jealous of Stoops turning around the Football program and it in his egotistical head taking away from the basketball program. Stoops has done the impossible and having KY fans questioning whether or not KY is a football or basketball school is amazing. Triple C might be able to have one more run to a title but doubt he can stay out of his own way long enough to get it done. Stoops has room to improve and is humble. Cal thinks he is GOD and needs to sit down and be humble.

False and misleading comparison of the two sports. It is not either/or. Winning in one sport is not a tradeoff for winning in other sports. The idea is to win in all of the sports. Especially football, which is the cash cow of every P5 athletics department.

I sure hope not. But, at this point almost nothing would surprise me. I never thought I would live to see the day when our basketball coach would get jealous of our football coach.

One interesting fact about the 2 sports. If you are an elite team, say top 5, it is easier to win a football championship than a basketball one. Why? Because in football the better team wins a higher % of games; AND because in football ONLY the top teams are allowed to compete for the Championship. But if you are not an elite team, it is easier (at least you have a chance) to win a championship in basketball than in football.
